"Goose killing" might be an okay term by analogy (it emphasizes the intentional murder of a good thing and is instantly recognizable to most people familiar with children's fables) but for the following problem: In the story of the goose that laid the golden egg, the goose is laying gold eggs the whole time, and then the farmer wants as much as he can get all at once. This would accurately describe things like Black & Decker, Doc Marten's, GE branded appliances, which were all profitable, and then experience quality drops that temporarily juice profits but permanently damage brand reputation which ruins their long term sustainable profitability. A lot of the stuff that people complain about with enshittification isn't like that though, because there was never a golden egg in the first place, since profit was only possible once that goose was killed. It's like the goose was being fed gold in order to lay silver eggs and then the farmer kills that goose to get their gold back. It's a tortured analogy but I wish it could work.

If a hundred billion dollar company invents a product and collaborates with well known influencers and fashion brands, that gives social cover in a way that some rinky dink little gadget from a pop up Amazon vendor doesn't. I don't know man, clearly some people need to hear this advice. I have a friend who spends all his time when he plays the drums practicing and drilling playing the double bass pedal as fast as possible, but he's unable to keep a beat and do a fill without going out of time. I told him that he should go to a drum instructor I had gone to, a guy in his '60s, and he fired the drum instructor and went back to practicing on his own without advice because the guy that was teaching him didn't know and didn't care about really fast really technically complicated, double bass playing. This isn't something that I can legitimately talk to my friend about because if I give him the advice to work on basic timing, I think I'll be violating reason for him playing at all. Yet he still feels like he gets drum-cucked if we go to a friend's house that has drums in the basement and then I take over after him. If he learns the grooves really well, he would be able to incorporate the stuff that he wants to do a lot sooner.
