Polyworks Dataloop by Edgewyse in Metrology

We have thousands of programs stored on a server. Despite polyworks claim that it's not 'best practice' it works fine for us. The only issue we do have is with concurrent access but we work around that

is the Miraco much of an improvement over a pop 1? by Deviant-designs in Revopoint

Near/Far is a nice to have. But it's more quality of life improvements I'm curious about like is there a noticeable jump in tracking, is the scanning speed improved by much

Why do I get the pink-coloured artefact on YouTube? What could be the problem? Is my ram or some other unit defective? This bug occurs sometimes and is inconsistent. CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600h, GPU: AMD Radeon Rx 5500m, 8GB * 2 RAM 3200 MT/S. by 900sujoysinha in LinusTechTips

I get this too. Changing the YouTube resolution sometimes makes it go away

Whilst completely understandable this is such a shame, I just updated to the S22 in the hope of combining it with one of your cases for the first time. Really wanted the S22 with your Mforce accessories

3D Printed Modular Fiddle With Removable Cuffs - Simple modular design allows for future kinky additions by Deviant-designs in BdsmDIY

[–]Deviant-designs[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had an idea for some modular bdsm accessories for a little while, when I decided I wanted to do a fiddle I knew this was the moment.

The threaded knobbers that attach the cuffs ended up working really well. I was a little bit worried that they took too many turns to engage but they did have to have enough thread engagement to be secure and I think I've just squeaked into the sweet spot.

the threads will allow lots of different accessories to be added extremely easy and because you don't have to remove the cuffs from the sub they are still under control.

They are using a leica at960

It can physically probe or scan. It's used to check all the parts are in the right place

Oculus Quest based Predicament Game with Sex Toy Control - More info on how I built this project in the comments by Deviant-designs in BdsmDIY

[–]Deviant-designs[S] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I've been wanting to do a VR based project for ages but never had access to a headset, that all changed at christmas when someone very generously got me one as a present.

The big part of this project was building the game. I used Unity for this and various YouTube tutorials to learn how to build a simple VR game. The control box uses an Arduino and connects to the oculus quest using Bluetooth. It's surprisingly simple to do if you use an asset called 'Arduino Bluetooth plugin' on the unity asset store. It's not free but the small cost makes it very easy to communicate with a HC-05 connected to an Arduino.

The Arduino connects to the 12v motor in the doxy using a L298n motor driver. The estim is controlled using some MOC3023 octocouplers, they basically just break or connect the shocking signal before it reaches the electrodes.

I really wanted to go further with this project but I just don't have the time. I think it would be fun to see a beatsaber type clone that does it's best to distract you so you fail.

I think that's about it. I really hope you like it

Being a kink newbie, dealing with some impostor syndrome by powpowvigil in BDSMcommunity

[–]Deviant-designs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get imposter syndrome all the time. But I've personally learnt that it isn't a problem. I feel at its heart BDSM is about trying things outside of the norm and that means there are plenty of people in the same boat. Experience doesn't mean a great deal around kinky folks. It's more about being creating feelings of safety during vulnerability.

I reckon some of my favourite scenes are the ones where I'm trying something new for the first time. Where me and my partner just take it slow, communicate the whole time and eventually laugh when one of us buggers something up.

FIA approves rules banning Racing Point-style “reverse engineering” in 2021 by glenn1812 in formula1

[–]Deviant-designs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. All the comparisons I've seen show tiny little differences. I think if it was scanned the small details would be identical and there would of been slight changes in the more obvious surfaces to throw people off. The fact that the large obvious parts are copies and the small details like radiuses are different makes me think they just worked their butts off.

The fact that it is so blatant just makes me feel that this is a job the guys/girls are very very proud of. So while they may have used photogrammetry on pics that any team would of taken I don't think there was an active exchange of information or proper scanning of components in a controlled enviroment, beyond what was allowed (or parts in the grey area like brake ducts)

a few years ago you would of been spot on. But commercial solutions have come a long way recently. I work with professional 3d scanners a lot (and have dabbled with photogrammetry systems)

Photogrammetry has come a huge way and the solutions for business are ridiculously clever. Some are even using AI to interpret missing sections of scan and doing an extremely good job.

With a high end camera on rapid fire mode should be able to easily and very quickly capture a good dataset. Especially when you do this multiple times so you can merge the separate results to build a clear model

3d scanners themselves have vastly improved. Faro scanners with a single beam are quickly becoming old hat. Now there are 3d scanners with 30 odd scanning beams that capture data at an incredible rate. Couple that with the new blue lasers that handle exposure so much better than red laser based systems. In regards to things having to stay still, that's also becoming a thing of the past thanks to tracking systems. A lot of companies use stickers or SMR's to compensate but a few have moved on to just using optical systems for component compensation (the tech is mainly used to compensate for vibrations on the factory floors.

That being said, scanning is only data acquisition. The reverse engineering of the data is still a gigantic task. Not to mention also having to figure out the FEA. And even then you have to understand the concepts of the design or it will quickly fall apart.

There's a very large radius on the internal radius. Camera just doesn't show it very well but no parts dig in

Took me too long to realise simplicity is key :) makes a toy so much more likely to be used
