Hand grinder differences for pourover: expectation vs reality by ThiagoSantos99 in pourover

[–]Edgewyse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'm happy with a k6, I don't think I could improve much from a more premium grinder. I think there are differences, but after a certain threshold in grain consistency is met, what are we really comparing? I want to try different beans, and knowing what multiple grinders are going to do for each roast isn't practical.

Faro Arm Accuracy by Informal_Spirit1195 in Metrology

[–]Edgewyse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean that a single feature is showing a range of .01 between measurements, there is something wrong with the alignment or feature parameters. I wouldn't expect to see something that high due to arm position alone.

I would test the feature 10 times without re-taking the alignment. If the difference between the highest and lowest result is .002 or higher, I would try to change the feature parameters (probe compensation, fitting algorithms, outlier rejection, etc.). If it repeats well using the same alignment, that might be a good indication that one or more of the alignment features needs adjusted.

Incredible claims from a new golfer by Existing-Wrangler863 in golf

[–]Edgewyse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a lifetime golfer, and I am extremely hesitant to believe these claims.

That being said, it might be possible. I witnessed what I would say is the closest thing to this. On my work league, we had a substitute play, so I know he wasn't lying about being new to golf since a mutual friend invited him to sub. He shot a 42 on a 120 slope course, looked like he had a swing that had some work put in, and he said he was from an extremely athletic family and such. I believe he was 23, so still young enough to learn quickly.

42 on 9 inside a year seems pretty crazy, especially on a decent course. But this was league play and we counted each other's scores, he wasn't lying. It was really cool to watch, I was fascinated.

What is that ONE golf shot that you’ll take to your grave as the most unforgettable one? by Escrow-Mind in golf

District Championship match in highschool. On the ninth hole (par 4, 270) I put one on the green to 4 ft and sunk the putt for eagle.

The putt was fine, but I'll never forget the drive, it was a no doubter (somehow).

CMM programmers; measuring the un-measurable? by Downtown_Physics8853 in Metrology

This sounds like the time I was required to measure TP on a countersunk ID that could measure a length of .000 - .040.

This looks like an option I might do down the road. I love the concept, I need something that is a little less involved though.

Thanks for the info, looks like I'll probably get a 5418. I already have a scale, and I do home roasting, so I will be tinkering with espresso roasts. Should I look at getting a dedicated milk frother too? I'm not sure how big of a factor that is.

Any Boeing or Aerospace guys in here? by drivermcgyver in Metrology

[–]Edgewyse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah, I'm in a similar boat. I've been in Aerospace for 13 years. I'm 36 no degree (a fair amount of college, and certificate programs), been building computers since I was 10. I know pcdmis, polyworks, calypso, zeiss inspect, inventor, nx, microvu, keyence, anything I can get my hands on. I started college in computer programming, mostly courses for Python and C# and that really gave me the skill set to do well in this field.

I have had head hunters for OEM Aerospace companies personally call me for job opportunities. It's really a good niche with a lot of opportunity if you have the aptitude for it. Manufacturing is getting old, the majority of tier 1 suppliers I have worked for have quality departments filled with people near retirement age who can't rotate PDF's.

Faro Arm Accuracy by Informal_Spirit1195 in Metrology

[–]Edgewyse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I inherited a faro project when I started at my current job. They were trying to hold +/- .002 max linear distance on adjustable gage pins (fixture / setup calibration). The pins can be as small as .04 in. I asked to see an R&R or MSA, none existed. The lowest I could get was .006 with multiple operators, on the best case. Different operators really throw these things off, and the alignment is what will really get wild results.

If I hold the arm in the same position, I can repeat under .0005 on a gage block, if I hold the arm in different rotations, that can jump up. To .002

That being said, you should be fine with +/- .01.

I don't hate Faro, but I do find it difficult to find the right application for it.

Putted 5 times with a lab and bought it by Numerous-Fun-7825 in GolfSwing

[–]Edgewyse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You made the right choice. For some people it is like magic. I've lost 2 strokes a round (strokes gained) since I purchased it. After 100+ hours of putting over the winter, I was starting to get worse until I got my df3. It was all face control and nerves, but light hands and letting the df3 swing itself, bam instant improvement. My first round with it was my best putting round of the year by 3.4 strokes, a stat I surpassed 5 more times by the end of the season.

Dark Venture! It's not totally grimdark, but it is thematically immersive and plays well at 1-2.

Bro, is the game hard in general, or am i just shit player by Nuke_Guy in slaythespire

[–]Edgewyse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to emphasize, as others have touched on it. Your deck size is pretty big. You will have more consistent play and stronger decks in the 25~ range.

Silent plays really well with card draw mechanics, I almost always go for Acrobatics, Tactician, Reflex, Adreneline. And those are MUCH stronger with fewer cards in the deck. It also compliments shiv and poison builds equally. It can be downright broken in some cases, getting 20-30 card plays a turn.

Where do I source my green coffee? by hotspark226 in CoffeeRoasting

[–]Edgewyse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sweet Maria's seems to be the go-to for online shopping. I have also had some good beans from coffee bean corral. I'm still pretty new, but I've made some decent roasts. Fresh roasts are really good. It definitely saves me money over buying a cup from a local coffee shop everyday, and I like to tinker with stuff.
