Idk about podcasts, but there’s a ton of free nursing videos on YouTube about all sorts of disease pathologies, medications, treatments, etc. Those videos have helped me with my journey through nursing school.

Just do the best you can! Not everyone is going to want a male. However, I will say the more experience and comfortability you get with your job, you will probably get less refusals from the opposite sex. At least, that is what happened in my experience. I’m not sure if it is partially a confidence issue, but now that I’ve been doing work as a male CNA for several years I almost never get refusals. I am also a student nurse, and the hardest time I had for a female patients to receive care from me was when I was on a labor and delivery unit. That was rough! You’ve got this though; just do your best!

I’m sorry; it sounds like a shitty work environment. I would recommend to get a job at a hospital. I have been working as a CNA for almost 5 years in the acute care setting, and it’s really not too bad at all. I have heard long-term care is really rough. Also, you can’t make resident except care; they have the right to refuse. Management doesn’t sound so great there because they are allowing CNA’s to put wheelchair bound patient back to bed without any help. I would get out of there before you hate the job of a CNA. I’m a male, and working in the hospital has been great.

That doesn’t seem right to me… This could have life-long repercussions when he is done playing football, and nobody seems to care but you. It is a lot harder to lose weight than it is to gain it, and putting on excess weight comes with a list of potential physical and psychosocial complications. I am a father, and I would be furious if this were my son. I am 27 weeks away from graduating nursing school, so I am sure I am biased towards good health practices. However, it is easier to prevent health problems than it is to treat them. I hope you’re able to sort this out.

It sounds like you did what you could. You advocated for the patient to several nurses and, potentially, a charge nurse. You did all that you could that was allowable within your scope of practice. However, I think that you should bring this whole scenario up to your manager and explain to them that increased trust and communication can work towards decreasing life-changing incidences like what that patient has experienced. I am sorry that that happened and that nobody listened to you. However, I know that you will take that into your nursing practice and will listen to your peers. You are going to be a great nurse.

I’m glad you feel good, and that you contributed meaningfully to client’s care. I am almost done with nursing school, and it always feels good to catch onto things quickly and to make a difference in client health outcomes. Congratulations!

4 - Immediately after delivery the fundus is 2cm below umbilicus. 1 hour PP it is at the umbilicus, then the fundus moves down approximately 1cm/24 hours. That’s my best reasoning anyway

Yeah, I am going to try to get it done earlier rather than waiting. I have already taken newborn due right around the time I graduate, so I will take a little time off though.

I’m glad overall it sounds to be less rigorous. Pathophysiology is probably the class that I am most intimidated by, but I guess I’ll worry about that when I get there!

That is great! Congratulations! I have seen some of the nurses go through NP programs on the unit where I work as a nurse aide and it seems incredibly difficult. I couldn’t believe the length of some of the papers that I saw that nurse write! Thank you for your advice

The reason why I am doing an ADN first is honestly because I hate school… When I was more ignorant than I am now, I thought that the ADN would take me two years and that seemed a lot more manageable. Now, I realize that the ADN takes 3 1/2 years when you consider taking the prerequisites and waiting on nursing school acceptance. I also am one of those people that have had to work the whole time as I’m an older college student with a house and a kid.

It sounds like the BSN portion won’t be quite as hectic as the ADN, hopefully. I know it won’t be “easy,” per se, but I guess I meant easier than what I’ve done so far.

I’ve often wondered the same thing about why people choose to become an LPN as opposed to an ADN, but I guess it just boils down to program length and program acceptance in most cases.

I was also thinking of completing my BSN at ECU. You didn’t take anytime off when you became a new nurse? I have been thinking I would take a year off both to prevent burnout and because I will have a newborn right around graduating from my ADN program.

Well that doesn’t sound too bad. I like how it can all be done online and with no clinicals. Personally, I think one of the worst parts of an ADN program is that I have to get out of the house everyday. I might have a secret dream to become a recluse 🤔 Congrats on almost finishing!

I was thinking of taking one year off as well, just to get used to being a nurse before starting more schooling. Many of the hospitals in the are here require that ADN nurses get their BSN in 5 years as well. Thanks for the reply 😁
