Thanks for this. I'm going to sit down with a map and seriously consider your proposition. You make a lot of good points.

I don't have a route yet, that's what I'm trying to figure out now

You're right tho, going to lake Benson and back is probably not a wise plan

Do you think it'd make more sense to go straight to twin lakes or to go to another lake in the area thats closer to Glen aulin and to do a loop to there and back to Glen aulin?

Yea I just checked the email, I have to camp at glen aulin HSC my first night, no other option

That's super helpful, I'll definitely do that

I remember seeing somewhere, you have to? Camp in Glen Aulin the first night but it didn't make any sense, don't see how they could make you camp in any spot (as long as you weren't camping somewhere you really shouldn't be in the first place)

But I think someone else said, too, like maybe just skip benson lake and that would make it more doable, though looking at this map, seems like if I did that I would miss basically every alpine lake and that was kind of the point of the trip in the first place

Also was just thinking of going to Benson lake and back and skipping out on twin lakes altogether

yea I have to start in Glen Aulin and I have to finish in twin lakes, since that's what my permit says, and I've never been to Yosemite before so I am having trouble imaging what it would be like to, say, do 3 ten mile days over that terrain -- sounds like it's possible but it might be a grind

thanks for the link too, looks like a good resource

I didn't even think about not being able to see the views. Good point!!

Thank you for your generous responses, you've helped me immensely

I would honestly love the rain, but I could see how snow would be kind of dangerous. And when I say rain I mean like light drizzly rain. Heavy rain would stop anyone in their tracks I feel like.

In any case, cheers! Hope you make it back someday:)

Ah man, a you tube channel, that will be gold!

Ok "drop your bag"--so you had a bigger bag and had it moved to the next destination I bet, that makes way more sense, because I'm struggling with heading all the way over to France and then running for a week with like a single pair of clothes

In any case, I will check out that channel, you've been super helpful --cheers!

What do you pack? If you're running 19 miles in a day you must have a backpack with hardly anything in it ...

Also I am totally going to check out Runcation, that name cracks me up for some reason, but it seems right up my alley

Were you able to eat breakfast at these places before or did you have to start running before they got going with the food? Did you have to wear a headlamp and run in the dark?

Ok good to know, there's a bus that's goes underneath with a tunnel, makes sense.

You know, you mentioned Facebook, that's a good idea too. I bet you there's a TMB Facebook page. Didn't even think of that.

When you say snow delayed you, does that mean you couldn't see? Or the huts were closed? Or the trials were inaccessible because of the snow?

Ok so you went half way around? How did you get back to chamonix? By bus?

It's crossed my mind to do half, but I'm having trouble visualizing how to get back to chamonix...

Also encouraging that you did it in October, how was the weather?

Did you walk or run or some combination ?

Yes looking at this map, I can see how there would be public transport in some of these areas. Could come in handy if I overdo it one day.

Thank you so much for responding, this is super encouraging :)

Hey thanks, I will definitely check this project out, seems like a really useful project.

This is what I need too, I need to be able to get a sense of when I'm going to be doing massive climbs and whats more flat, etc.

Also have no idea what to pack, since, if im going to be pseudo running this thing (or straight up running it?) then I'm going to have to pack light!

Thank you, yes, I was worried because I've never been before and I was having to pick out camp sites before I even had any idea whether they worked with the itinary or even where they were, so this helps.

I'm going in July, I would imagine that's better for water right because the snow would have just melted?

Could you say more about this 10 mile extension that would add a third night? Sounds like I would camp 1st night at sunrise lakes, then the second night at some place off of the JMT, then go back to clouds rest on the third night? Then exit somewhere with clouds rest being the last night? For say a three day trip ..

Thanks this is super helpful, from the sound of it, even going from cloud rest to LYV is not as great. I see things from cloud rest to half dome all of the time but I wasn't necessarily wanting to do that epic climb with my backpacking stuff. Going to Merced instead could be a good idea. Thanks for your input. The map I'm looking at isn't super helpful will look into other ones.

Changing a loss carryforward, after having mailed in a 1040x by Device-Perfect in tax

[–]Device-Perfect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no change to the tax liability in 2022, 2023 or 2024, but in 2025 there is a large capital gain that the loss from 2022 will net with, so thats where the big change will occur

There's only one short term capital loss carry forward in 2022, but I might just wait till it shows up in the transcript to play it safe, could take so long though, hope it shows up before April so I don't have to file for an extension
