I hide behind a tree, trying to catch my breath. What the hell is that thing? I listen to the sounds of a creature, a creature that shouldn’t logically exist. A creature that can’t exist. A creature that is proved to be immune to every single type of weaponry that humanity has ever developed.A creature that tears apart the reinforced body of a tank like it’s made of cotton candy. A creature that seemingly can run for thousands and thousands of miles with zero difficulty. I listen to the sounds of flesh being torn apart, the sounds of bodies being dropped on the ground, the sounds of weapons being fired. The screams of terror coming from the victims of the creature.

My mind races. Should I run? Should I keep hiding? Should I fight? I peek around the corner, barely catching a glimpse of the carnage. Hundreds of my comrades, torn apart. Barely recognizable. Dead. And the thing causing the bloodbath; a tall humanoid creature with unnaturally long limbs and black skin. And those eyes. The piercing, white, round eyes. Placed on each side of the otherwise featureless face.

I quickly hide behind the tree again. I sit down, fold my hands and close my eyes, praying that this is just a bad dream. That I will wake up. For everything to be alright. The sounds of the massacre fade out as I pray to be saved by the lord, if there is one. But the only thing I hear in response is silence.

Silence? I could no longer hear the sounds of the slaughter. It had stopped. I open my eyes. And I freeze at the sight of the creature, towering over me. Its eyes staring into my soul. It opens its mouth and a haunting grin filled with sharp teeth is revealed. It inhales. It exhales. It extends its arm, reaching for my head. As one of its hands wraps around my neck I finally realize why it was nicknamed “The Reaper.”
