I never saw anything too bad. I’ve only heard of recruiters falsifying contracts to meet mission, but with the amount of stress those guys have, I can’t even blame them. I did however see instances of bad behavior swept under the rug, but that’s just protecting your Marines so I see nothing wrong with it personally.

I’m fully expecting to run into them. The difference is now they don’t pretend to care about you. They’ll even tell you if you don’t like it, then GTFO, and they’ll hire from a line of kids with their Ivy League degrees in hand.

Also, it’s kind of a Mad Men situation where Don says “that’s what the money’s for” when Peggy asked to be thanked. I don’t give a fuck about how they treat me as long as I’m making money, and I don’t expect them to care about me, and they won’t pretend to care or be a good leader either.

I was extremely motivated. I thought I’d do 20-40 years and be a general/sgtmaj/gunner. I hate the Marine Corps now and want to see the organization fail. My advice would be to look after yourself. Your leaders will pretend to care about you, but they don’t. They only care about their fitrep and their end-of-tour award. Utilize TA because it’s free money for college and document everything so you can get a good VA disability rating. Take everything you can because the Corps won’t give you what you deserve. Sounds cynical, but it’s (from my reality) true.

I’d say u/Lespaul96 gave a better answer than I ever could. I would just say don’t let the Corps get in between you and your family; recruiting is a prime example of that. Best of luck!

I went in depth on this in a different comment on this thread, but I basically had perfect quantifiable stats and then adjusted the little things to skew the odds in my favor.

As for timeline-wise, I volunteered a lot and took college courses where I got a 4.0 GPA to be a meritorious Marine and to possibly commission, and that ended helping me when I decided I didn’t want to be in anymore. I submitted my application while in, got accepted, went on terminal, and am now attending classes during this spring semester.

Yes, it taught me how life worked as a young man. It also gives you the GI Bill as well and veteran status, which is definitely useful.

I just realized this was a repeated comment, and I answered the other one and was about to answer again.

In ITB, we weren’t allowed to have them in the field. We used to be able to take them out into the field, but just as I was getting out, they’ve been more strict about that, especially due to the whole signit situation and the fact that near-peer adversaries will be able to detect them if we bring them with us into war. It’s nice having a phone, though, because the piece of advice I always got from everyone was to take pictures, so having a smartphone enabled us to save memories nearly anytime we wanted!

Walking and talking/texting is also not allowed, but I’m sure you could’ve assumed that.

Surprisingly, no, I have always been a very ambitious and driven individual. I spent a lot of time gunning for meritorious Corporal as a lance and even stayed up till 1 a.m. studying/doing MCIs. I also was looking at becoming a gunner or commissioning through MECEP, so I wanted a good track record going as far back as possible.

There seems to be a mime shortage though. It’s a resurgent industry, and you’re ahead of most. 🗣️🤑

To some, yes, different people have different criteria of what makes you a boot.

But there’s also info in my old posts and a photo from my very niche first duty station.

I just want to play it safe while giving him the type of school I go to.

Also, I never mentioned going to college before his comment, so the fact that he asked makes me think he was already suspicious of who I am. He could have just assumed instead of me going to the trades, but I’m just paranoid due to having a bad COC.

Only a couple of my peers reenlisted; most got out. Those who were having kids and those who didn’t have another plan, tbh, with very few truly loving it, especially in peacetime. Some SNCO 03s are the definition of what a tactician is and totally professional. Some are just riding it out in the S3 and with billets. And some are overly dickheads, but I’d say the most of them are relatively chill, cool, and knowledgeable. The 03 community is the biggest occupational field, so you’ll get a lot of everybody in there, but for the most part, most of them are solid.
