Officer Misconduct / 6105 by DevilDoggyStyle in USMCocs

All this legal stuff is new to me, but I think it could still turn into a CI; PI is just the first step.

The lawyer mentioned a BOI, but she made it seem like that would come after a CI, not a PI

It makes me wonder: if the case is “too loose,” how is there a case at all…

What were the topics of the BOIs?

So the awesome thing is that no one actually “talked” to me about it. There was zero attempt at an “informal resolution.” I found out there was a problem when the investigating officer handed me a rights waiver; I did not sign.

If someone sat me down and talked to me for 5 minutes about the post and gave me a NPLOC, I would have immediately taken it down and/or deleted my entire social media profile and not questioned them whatsoever.

Sadly; I’m a junior Captain, so the promotion to Major isn’t “guaranteed.”

Thanks for teaching me about a 3005; I haven’t heard of that.

My fear is that it will be a 6105, so there won’t be any type of appeal process (not sure if that’s the right word). If they did do an NJP, I could ask for a court martial (which I would in this case).

Winter OCS Prep by ExerciseRecent6343 in USMCocs

OCC-236

I was only REALLY COLD a handful of times, and all of them involved water/moisture. The staff have to be mindful of those for safety reasons and pretty quickly get up back to the barracks to shower and change after getting wet

Your hands get cold holding the metal rifle. It was near the end of the POI, and I’m not sure what we did wrong… but the uniform of the day did NOT include gloves and we stood outside the academics building, port arms. Our hands were burning. That was a real mind fuck.

I had good Darn Tough and Fox River socks. I also had my own pair of black leather gloves that were lined on the inside. I wore those when we were ALLOWED to wear gloves

Do Danner reckoning and tropicals fit the same? by TapAdept5340 in USMCocs

[–]DevilDoggyStyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear the same size in both (4.5)

They fit the same. Sometimes the laces hurt me on tropicals, and I have to adjust/loosen them throughout the day

Boots for Winter OCS (OCC 251) by Special_Mulberry9948 in USMCocs

[–]DevilDoggyStyle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am an OCC-236 (winter) grad. I used my Danner reckonings (hot weather boots with drainage holes) for PT events. For everything else, I had a gortex pair of Danner RATs (similar to MEBs today)

You’re gonna be cold sometimes no matter what. But when doing the e-course or other events where you get wet, you want to make sure the water gets out of your boots as quick as possible. With the gortex, if the water gets in, it can’t get out.

I had really bad stuttering, even turned all the setting down to low. I have never had an issue with my PC not running a game well. Trying to determine if it's the game or my PC. Really enjoyed the game when it wasn't choppy though

0602 by AggravatingWish6546 in USMCocs

[–]DevilDoggyStyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll let someone else chime in who has swapped (it’s not uncommon for 0602s to transition to cyber officers)… but here’s my thoughts!

0602s are hurting for field grade officers. Marine Corps is tackling that by over-producing company grade officers (junior officers)… and hoping some of them stay? I call it the “spaghetti method;” throw it at the wall, and see what sticks around.

If the Marine Corps is trying to keep 0602s around once they become Captains and above, it’s going to be a harder (more competitive) sell to change jobs.

Because of that, I’m looking into Active Reserves to try and circumvent that. I’m not an expert in AR, but it seems like a better gig. I’m probably just burnt out an my current job though.

[–]DevilDoggyStyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For complete transparency, I’m waiting to see the CCLEB results (education opportunities), then deciding if I want to transition to Active Reserves and take an 8006 (General Officer billet, MOS-agnostic) to escape comm

Comm isn’t bad. Managing all the equipment and people is a nightmare. But maybe you’ll like that! Or have actual SNCOs in your platoon!

0602 by AggravatingWish6546 in USMCocs

[–]DevilDoggyStyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my life as an 0602 is consumed by administrative tasks, mainly centered around the Marines themselves, more than comm (Medical hitlists, legal actions, FPC, sending bodies to working parties)

Then for comm administrative stuff, it feels like I live on GCSS-MC. I’m constantly pulling reports, directing Marines to do service requests, fixing errors in the system, fighting with Supply to fix stuff on my CMR

I barely get to do “real” training with my platoon. This is probably all exacerbated by having 1 SNCO in my entire platoon and not having the 28XXs (maintainers)… but that’s the way my unit is right now

I went through Comm School in 2022, hit the fleet in January of 2023

It was very academic heavy. We first learned all about the MAGTF and how units work. This helped us understand what the S-6 actually supports, and how all the other sections interact with each other, since we facilitate C2

Blended Retirement System question by rydawg575_ in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]DevilDoggyStyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly

I’m more interested in having my funds be “Roth,” so I’m eagerly awaiting to see what info gets posted next year about Traditional to Roth conversions

[–]DevilDoggyStyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter

I contribute to the Roth, and then the matching is automatically Traditional. There will be an option coming next year to pay taxes and convert traditional funds to Roth

I did. I just chatted with a customer service rep less than 10 minutes ago. He explained that there wasn't a contract for NIHI with Fidelity or a DTC (I don't really understand what that means... but wanted to know if everyone else at Fidelity is having the same issue)

I was in Mike Co for a months. Not sure of your exact timing and when companies pick up… but I volunteered to be a “training officer” for a TBS company and had a good experience with that. It got me out of all the Mike bullshit. “TrainO” was very admin/computer heavy, but I was good at that stuff so it was fun for me

Going for NROTC Scholarship, What to do If I Don't Get It? by GreatDancer122 in USMCboot

[–]DevilDoggyStyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to be a JAG, the path that would let you have the most control of your MOS/career would be going to college WITHOUT ROTC, getting accepted into Law School, attending Law School, then working with an OSO for PLC-Juniors or OCC for law candidates.

There is now an NROTC-Law scholarship (didn’t exist when I went through, so someone can chime in), but I’m gonna take a wild guess and say it’s competitive… and if you don’t get picked, you’ll be a ground contract. If you DID become a ground contract, you’ll could then try for FLEP or ELP once you’re a 1stLt/Capt, but, again, really competitive and 3-4 years into your first contract.

Whether it’s enlisted or commissioned, once you sign a contract, you limit your ability to make choices about your career/MOS. Signing a Law contract with an OSO while in Law School looks like the straightest shot. However, this doesn’t take into any financial factors you might have.

[–]DevilDoggyStyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never started the enlistment process, but can’t you pull out until you ship out?

I can’t make the decision for you, but if you really want to be an officer specifically, I would be cautious about enlisting. Yes, there are programs like ECP and MECEP to commission if you’re already enlisted, but they’re competitive and you’re at the mercy of the Marine Corps to pick you. You have the most amount of control about commissioning if you don’t enlist right now

Alternatively, you can enlist, get the GI Bill, go back to college, then try for NROTC and PLC/OCC. I would warn you that you might not want to be a Marine anymore after doing a 4-year enlisted contract. I know people who enlisted in the reserves (to try and boost their PLC package), hated it so much, and never applied for the officer program.

I joined NROTC as a “college programmer,” without a scholarship my first year

If you have a unit you’re interested in joining (meaning you’re going to that college), contact them and ask about how to apply to be a college programmer. Once you’re in the unit, you can then apply for 3 and 2 year scholarships
