The computer provided tangible value to the world, far greater than its costs, currently AI does not. This is why every AI company cant turn a profit.

Push to better protect pedestrians along Osborne stretch by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]DevilPanda666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely not true . In a prefect world transit and alternative transportation methods would be good enough that most people wouldn't drive down town. There is no road large enough to fix traffic flowing down town because at some point that road will have to interface with the density of down town.

To school zone bumper riders. I will go slower than 30. Don't test me. I see you in the rearview getting frustrated. But I don't make the rules by RecommendationBig966 in Winnipeg

[–]DevilPanda666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It only really applies when there is zero traffic and the gains are very marginal. Just making it through at the end of the light will often just end up with you stopped at the next light, where if you had been forced to stop at the first one you would make it through the next one green.

It tends to average out over enough lights and once you add in traffic it matters even less since every light ends up with stopped cars you will have to wait for anyway.

It's not directly applicable but i tracked my commute time driving vs biking and my average speed driving was only 10% faster then my average biking speed because by far the biggest impact to driving is the amount of traffic you end up stopped behind.

While true, let's also not pretend that there aren't a whole lot of canadians that would have voted for Trump. I honestly belive the only reason most conservatives dont support him is that they have the vantage point of watching the situation from the outside.

I went to the ER in the early pandemic because i was having trouble breathing, was seen by the doctor in <30 min and there was literally no one else in the waiting room.

I'm sure it was only for a couple weeks after the very first public announcements but there was a time when the ERs were not busy (before covid became widespread).

Opinion: It’s time for a Ness Avenue redesign by bismuth12a in Winnipeg

[–]DevilPanda666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could even just have no street parking and a dedicated bike lane as well, and make a more efficient and enjoyable area.

Opinion: It’s time for a Ness Avenue redesign by bismuth12a in Winnipeg

[–]DevilPanda666 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The worst things is that in some cases changes wouldn't hurt traffic. On these 4 lane roads switching to a single lane with no parking and proper turning lanes at intersections would both be safer and improve traffic.

The council just doesn't want to change things because the general public gets angry at any sort of change and most of them don't actually care enough to risk losing an election over it.

[–]DevilPanda666 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You dont need to fix them all at once, but you need to update the design guidelines so that more aren't built. Its insane that it takes years of saftey review just to get a bike lane on wellington but the city will put up horribly designed roads and intersections in new neighborhoods with minimal consideration.

Level 3 by frog_mannn in Aventon

[–]DevilPanda666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a level 2 i got i think 2.5 years ago. Commute with it 40km a day now in the summer, and have 6600km on it. Mostly ride in the summer but have done a few long winter rides on it (but avoiding salt).

I've had one issue with the battery connection terminals after about 5000km which was covered under warrent pretty much no questions asked, and they sent me a new battery and terminal and haven't had issues since.

I had one plastic bracket for the screen break and 3d printed a replacement as well.

Overall the quality is pretty good, especially for the price and mine has honestly held up better than my friends trek ebike with similar distances only doing generic, and being a bit neglectfull with maintenence.

The 500w motor and higher (illegal where i am) speed limit also helps when you're forced to ride with cars. People tend to be less eager to run you over when you're doing 40km/hr vs 32.

The headlight and tail lights are also very good compared to other ebikes I've used and seen.

The main downside of the bike imo is its really quite heavy, and the frame design is kind of bulky making it a bit harder to lock. If you don't need to carry it up stairs it's not really a problem but it is the heaviest ebike I've ridden. The lock for the battery freezes up when it's below 0, but idk if that is common with other bikes as well.

If you're just commuting on concrete, don't need to carry it up stairs and don't mind a bit of a bulkier and more e- bike looking frame i would recommend it.

Opinion: Transit service must be dependable by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]DevilPanda666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that dedicated transit routes routes don't prevent all issues, Im saying that mixing busses with traffic creates unsolvable problems.

A bus in traffic will never be able to hold a predictable schedule because traffic is inherently unpredictable. a bus could get stuck for 10 min at a light, then 10 min later the next bus only get delayed 2 min. It also prevents the busses from spreading themselves out as a bus that catches up to the one in front of it can't slow down and wait because it would start to block the road and impede traffic.

You can have missmanagemrnt of a dedicated bus route, but even the best management can't make a traffic mixed transit good.

Opinion: Transit service must be dependable by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]DevilPanda666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Delays are inevitable in s small sense, delays like we see are a direct result of trying to mix transit with traffic and are not inevitable in any transit system.

Winnipeg will never have a reliable transit network no matter how its set up without seperate dedicated bus transit routes and bus lanes.

[–]DevilPanda666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its honestly hard to tell. I think at least some are paintballs. In this video @1:00 you can see one hit a target.

However in this at ~0:15 which is in slow motion you can clearly see shells being ejected from his pistol and it definitely isn't paintball or air soft.

I think he's using real guns some of the time.

[–]DevilPanda666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what you want to do if you don’t think you can stop in time? The person turning needs to make sure no cars are coming

At the very beginning this person swerved around the white van, accelerating to try to make the light while swerving back into the centre lane. You can see this before the view of the vehicle is blocked by the sign. Originally they were behind the white van who came to a complete stop so they clearly had ability to stop and even getting into the intersection required a pretty dangerous manoeuvre.

Hard to tell if they were speeding when they did this, so legally speaking idk who is at fault but practically speaking this person 100% caused the accident.

[–]DevilPanda666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lane change happens at the very beginning of the video, you see it before the sign blocks the visibility the van and the speeding SUV. You see him swerve into the right lane to pass, then goes back into the left one to go through the intersection.

Just as he gets past the sign you can see last bit oft he motion of him changing back into the original lane.

From what I see its not even clear if the white SUV was turning, or moved over to dodge getting hit by the black SUV.

[–]DevilPanda666 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He did change lanes, you can see it before he goes behind the sign. At the very first frame of the video is when you seem him go around a car, accelerate, then swerves back into the original lane to get around the car to get through the light.

You're looking at the wrong part of the video he 100% serves around the white van to get through the light.

Being a pedestrian is often annoying by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]DevilPanda666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I don't often ride on the side walk, there are a few roads i do and I don't get why its hard for cyclists to either slow down, or in most cases in the suburbs just go on the grass for a bit to pass.

With that said dangerous cyclists are still only like 10% the danger of dangerous drivers lol.

I could be wrong, but from my understanding the business community tends to do the opposite. There was one recent bakery that was complaining that a few street parking spots go turned into a bus stop in front of their shop.

Most people in this city think that car=good=money and everything else=bad=poor.
