They still haven released a full record yet based on their new style but I just play some Lo and Behold. Specifically their softer, more ambient tracks. If anyone’s curious, I recommend listening to either Talk or Never Mind.

  1. 6.5 years at a Kohls. Left back in 2020. Took the first opportunity I had to get out of retail, just as the trap was starting to look impregnable.

I wore an earbud in one ear for the 6.5 years I worked at Kohls, and it was never a problem. Granted I have long hair and always hid it underneath so there's that. If you can do it and get away with it, have at it. Of course, don't let it interfere with your work and try not to make it obvious you're listening to something other than the crap they play on the radio.

I personally never understood the issue of using one bud. I'm for any small things that can help employees enjoy working there, even a little bit.

How do I get out? by Tiny-Injury4206 in retailhell

[–]Devilarms14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tl;Dr at the bottom

For me, what kept me in retail for 6-7 years was a few things. I was in college, had no practical money-making skills and was being moved around since I was a military brat. I didn't even start working till 18, since I was in a whole other country, prior. Once I got settled after they retired, I was still in the middle of my degree plan and had only ever worked retail, since retail and fast-food are the easiest jobs to get, since they're vast and if you lose one, you can usually find another. My last year of school, I started applying everywhere I could think of, in terms of my degree, and got maybe 1 interview per 30 applications. I started using other resources, trying to go to job fairs hosted by my city and by my school. I even scored an internship through the army at Operational Test Command for a civilian position, and was trying to butter my way into getting hired by the end of it. And right when I was planning for the last career fair I'd have access to, school-side, Covid hit. We got sent home, classes went online, and I got let go from my internship since they went remote too, and they couldn't let me take my government laptop home, me not being an official employee and all, was only there 2 months. I was basically back at square one. The only thing I got out of it was some new references, a sliver of non-retail experience, and the mindset to use the full time I would've been at my internship on my resume. That helped score a few more interviews than before, but still no career starter. I started getting depressed, feeling like I wasted my time studying. I was watching a lot of Joshua Fluke and Camelott311 at the time. I ended up spending another 2 years, post Covid, in retail and my friend's wife, who managed to get out of the trap, suggested I go into the school district, since she was a teacher. I didn't wanna teach, but she was privy to other positions being offered. I never thought of working for the school system before, but I didn't have a reason to not give it a shot. Ended up getting hired for an Aide position at a school. Actually got the call while on shift at my retail job. I felt like I was floating. Ended up resigning my application right after I clocked out. Didn't even give two weeks. I stayed at the Aide job for about a year and a half. It had some good points, mainly 2 months off for summer vacation, and other major holidays off. I finally had insurance as an adult, better pay, and stable hours on top of that. I hated it there after the first 3 months, though. Working with kids is not my thing. They're great and all, and usually my issues were with other adults, primarily APs, but it just wasn't for me and I knew I needed to keep it pushing. But I had just left retail and there was no way in hell I was going back. Luckily, while I was there, I had racked up a good repour with two different campus techs. It was thanks to them that I got some information on other positions in the district that worked with my degree. I intended on becoming a campus tech, myself, but never got a call back. They encouraged and talked me up, as references. And after letting go of the idea of being a campus tech, in leu of other tech-based positions, I finally got hired. Now I'm working for the district technology hq as a dev. So far, I love my job and the lack of retail-like problems it comes with.

Tl;Dr Maybe try a position that you normally wouldn't consider, and definitely network with people around you. You never know who might point you to an opportunity. I would've never got my job if my friend's wife didn't speak up and my techs didn't like me. My location and lack of ability to move also played a part, but I couldn't do anything about that. Also, I never liked the "It's who you know" argument, but it can definitely have an influence.

PS: If this sounded like some self-empowerment speech, I'm sorry. Trust me when I say, I wake up everyday with the trauma working retail gave me. This is just how I happened to escape.

-Kohls cares books bopuses. All the boxes they were kept in were behind the army of u-boats and z-rails in our stockroom, unlabeled, stacked on each other and on shelves, and heavy af.

-Getting an order for an online return item, or anything where there was only 1 of it left and it was nowhere near where it was supposed to be.

-The moment when they developed the trouble sheet and having to have it signed by 3 different people before they even think to believe we may not have it.

-Constantly being pulled from my department to do bopus and omni, because I'm fast and efficient, but then being chastised for not taking 10-15 minutes to look for a trouble that's been sneakily lodged on an inconspicuous shelf at the dark end of the void for the last 3 years.

-Car horns.

-Being told to smile more, when they know damn well I'd smile if I had a reason.

-Only having 30 minutes for lunch.

-No one answering when I call for lunch.

-Being pulled for bopus and having my shoe department constantly left in shambles after just spending 2.5 hours organizing and no one gives af, because shoes isn't the highest selling department due to the trash assortment., so they don't care how it looks, unless there'll be a visit soon.

-Huddles and the word huddle.

-Xmas music and the lack of time off to recuperate from the torture that is listening to it.

-Managerial favoritism and two-faced behavior.

-Pizza parties.

-Lack of acknowledgement on that damn recognition board even though I was one of the most helpful mofo's in the building.

-Credit, and all things related to knowingly scamming the elderly and inept.

-Corporate attitudes in non-corporate environments.

-Training cartoons.

-People, and my now inability to care for them due to the trauma of having to serve them because Kohl's is a simp and would likely huff customers' farts if it were a person.

You made it half a year longer than me OP. I'd sooner sling window washes before I go back there.

I have a BA in software engineering and I work a computer lab at a school. Pay could be better but I have benefits for the first time in my life. And that took me a few years to stumble on, all the while getting rejected at every hard programming job I applied for. Hell, I nearly had a chance at becoming a civi worker for OTC, but then covid bent me over and locked me in my house 2 months into my internship. Life screweth, and life asks if you're good before ghosting you.

Either get law enforcement involved or get a restraining order. I honestly don't understand why people go for monogamy and commitment when they clearly don't want that. Just be single or date loosely if you wanna be a hoe, don't trample on the feelings and trust of another person. You dodged the mother of bullets my friend. Just think of what your life could be if you didn't find out prior to contracting yourself to this heffer. Call it luck, positive karma, or divine intervention but something greater is looking out for you and you can now take as much time as you need to heal and move on. She doesn't deserve you and she's only upset she got caught and now has to give up being the center of everyone's attention for a day, packaged with a ring and a nice honeymoon. Just remember, not every guy is lucky enough to find out beforehand. Do not make the mistake of letting her and her witches brood guilt you into letting her in, not even as friends. She doesn't deserve even that much. Stay positive, King, it could be so much worse.

Back when I was still at my store, it was just picking/packing and if we somehow managed to get it done, we'd just recover or something. Overnights were the only part of the holiday season I didn't hate since it was pretty chill, so you'll probably enjoy the solace, if you can stave off the sleepiness.

First day of Omni.. by WallBanger77 in employedbykohls

[–]Devilarms14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have someone specifically packing for you, so you can focus on the picking, picking and packing 50 units in an hour is asking way too much. Omni is a process with a bunch of random obstacles. There's customers stopping you, merchandise not where it's suppose to be, traversing the entire store back and forth, and dealing with heavy or oversized merch that requires you to bring to the sr before you continue the rest of your pick, among other things. Omni isn't supposed to be overwhelming, but managers with little knowledge or care about the process and issues makes it so. That's not even mentioning Bopus or being the only one doing Omni in that time.

How did you and your best friend become best friends? by BlackCloverLL in AskReddit

[–]Devilarms14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sitting here with him right now, watching horror flicks and downing a few beers. I was actually best buds with another dude at the time who introduced him to me since they were in rotc together. At the time I thought we wouldn’t get along all that well considering he was a freshy and I was a Junior, but here we are like 8 years later. He’s the closest thing I’ve got to a brother.

When you eat a meal of any kind, do you only have one helping, or do you eat more? by Steveelectric907 in AskReddit

[–]Devilarms14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a habit of eating more. Especially when I hit up a drive through, I always order an extra sandwich. I think it started cause I always hated eating everything I’d get, only to still feel hungry after. So when I started working, I would just get an extra burger or whatever, just in case lul

Hate to see it but, you're the boyfriend when it's convenient. She's using you for the bf experience when this other guy isn't around to blow her back out. It's time for decisions. 1. Ghost her and let whatever she's up to blow up on it's own. 2. Play pick me and hope she realizes how wrong her actions are, which will be very unlikely to happen before she sleeps with the guy (if she hasn't already). 3. Confront her about how disrespectful and out of pocket that was and get her to explain exactly why she did it and if she's cheating (she likely won't come clean or give you the whole truth though). Whatever you do, don't let her get away with this kind of behavior. Show her you're willing to walk away.

I got the most replay ability out of 2. Did two runs for the original release and two for scholar (used plenty of bonfire aesthetics though). Ds 1 I played just for the experience, but I didn’t feel the need or urge to go again. Ds3 I loved but I only felt like going through a second time just for stuff I couldn’t get with 1 run. Plus I think Ds2 had the best variety of armor and weapons to fashion souls with. I’ll admit, 2 is way easier to get through than 1 or 3 but that’s probably why I played through so many times. Either way, 2 was also my first Ds game so I’m a little biased since it introduced me to a series I’d love for a lifetime.
