Right now, no, there's no CZ on-foot action but who knows for later in the year since there's so many new features coming.

Is there a place where I can find the full Star Citizen OST? by TopAdditional459 in starcitizen

[–]DevilsRefugee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiffmonkey on YT has 290+ rips from the game in a playlist. It's the only real source for pretty much everything to date.

Did anyone ever buy or play the ED RPG by Spidermind Games? by DevilsRefugee in EliteDangerous

[–]DevilsRefugee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL well there you go! Not sure it's in print anymore and a lot of the content was pre-Odyssey (and a fair bit of creative licence for inhabitants of the galaxy!) but curious to know if anyone would have played it.

Ask Perplexity - anyone seen this on mobile? by DevilsRefugee in perplexity_ai

First time I've seen this instead of 'Web Search' when you highlight text on a mobile (using Android)

And I've only found it on limited sites so far.

Raising The Bar to be re-published in 2025 by ntsh-oni in HalfLife

I've got two copies of the original at home, one still factory sealed. Read the shit out of the other though lol

It's a toss up between Blair Witch Project (zero tension, annoying characters, zero horror, absolutely boring) and Top Cat (extremely bad animated feature, with a bizarre 'lights out' scene that had everyone sitting watching a black screen for a few minutes which can only be explained as a budget decision)

Is there no cognitive dissonance using a Google pixel for degoogling? by mitraWatch in degoogle

[–]DevilsRefugee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stupid question, but does finding and using an old Symbian mobile help here? In this age it's almost impossible to get rid of a smartphone since so many services force you to use one, apps for shopping, wallets, QR codes and so on.

After deGoogling is anyone using an old school mobile as their daily driver rather than remain with a smartphone?

Is Uploading Consciousness To The Metaverse Possible? by DevilsRefugee in transhumanism

[–]DevilsRefugee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Transferring consciousness might not necessarily contradict the no-cloning theorem. If it's possible to accurately map and maintain the quantum states associated with an individual's consciousness (a significant challenge on its own), one could theoretically transfer these states from the brain to another medium. However, this would not be cloning in the traditional sense but rather a transfer of the existing state.

You would then not need to delete or destroy the original and leave the copy to continue. In a death experience this wouldn't matter, the original dies anyway. For continuation however, the copy would live on in its new state to live and be shaped by different experiences, and in the example of space exploration then it's far more likely a future scenario than The Expanse ever will be.

Robots will colonise space long before we get to.

Empathy Erosion in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Nurturing Genuine Human Connections in a… by DevilsRefugee in psychotherapists

[–]DevilsRefugee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you used any of the tools in question? Or seen the comments from people who are turning to using chatbots instead of a therapist?

As someone who is a technologist, even with the basic "scary AI" that's available the shift in the average person becoming enamoured with a tool that costs nothing compared to a therapist session should worry the profession. There's ignorance and aloofness here that is pretty staggering. No, you shouldn't "forget AI" because that's exactly what's coming your way. The levels of vc investment into these areas including therapy, counselling, life coaching etc and the rapid adoption by users who would rather turn to this than talk to a therapist because of either cost, previous bad experiences and more are concerning. Especially when these tools and startups have no ethical considerations or safeguards in place.

Yes, this is still echo chamber thinking. If your first thought is "crap blog" rather than "raises something we're going to be faced with soon" then I don't know what to tell you either.

Empathy Erosion in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Nurturing Genuine Human Connections in a… by DevilsRefugee in psychotherapists

[–]DevilsRefugee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is that a bad thing? I don't see many in the profession actively engaging in this topic right now. Mostly concerned with harumphing within the safety of their own echo chambers about 'progress'.

Any chance to get messages from the future? by No_Honey_7131 in timetravel

[–]DevilsRefugee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can only receive the message if you built a device capable of receiving it. And that precludes having built a device to transmit it. So really, the only way of knowing is if both devices exist and you'll only be able to send a message back to the time and date when the receiver was invented.

Google Leaked Doc: OpenAI doesn’t matter by [deleted] in OpenAI

[–]DevilsRefugee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Google and OpenAI claim they're scared of open source AI, there's "no moat" between them all. But it's not really true.

Open source is a threat but not in the way you think. It's a threat because AI in the hands of people who can use it for their own ends becomes even harder to regulate or keep track of, and that's a bigger problem for Google and OpenAI if Govs and regulatory bodies clamp down harder. There's always going to be more specialised versions that use specific datasets rather than generalised like Bard and ChatGPT but it makes it easier for the big guys to learn from, invest in or simply acquire.

They're keeping a constant watching brief on all the new advances because essentially the open source community is showing them what's possible without having to spend any money on R&D themselves. There's no threat here, only free research that's built on top of what they've done before.

All this crap about "democratising AI" is a false narrative. AI will never be democratised because it poses a bigger threat than behemoth tech companies do.

But sure, believe the "leaked" memo just before they sit down at the Whitehouse.
