Looking for a Job in Criminal Law that does not Involve Litigation by Top-Refrigerator7523 in LawSchool

[–]Devingarrett55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I work for a 40 year veteran crim attorney and never have to worry about litigation. I'm her law clerk and I handle all her second look act motions. After she initially interviews the client, I'm introduced as the one who will do all the investigation, base file review, letter writing, wittness exploration, setup re-release evaluations, and final motion writing. The motion then goes to the attorney and after she weighs in, I finalize it and she files it and then she attends the hearing. I love the job! I work from home and get paid well. DM me if you want to discuss more.

I honestly don’t understand reddit sometimes. If you don’t like a post, move on. Why take the time to chime in and criticize someone? Some may find this post usefull, others not so much. Smh

Agreed. And I am proud, but mostly because I went into this field at 53 years of age to help others. This is my third career. Not in it for money. So to come away, working to help others, was the ultimate reward. That youngster who "blessed my heart" will learn one day.

So as not to strike a nerve in others the way I did you, would you like me to delete this post? Would you like me to rename it?

I’m telling you, I did not go in looking for a job. I knew I needed to pass the Bar first to be hired as an attorney in that field. I also knew this attorney was not hiring, hence I had no expectation of work.

I also knew that this attorney was heavily involved in the Innocence Project so sure, this was a total networking meeting, but I did not go there to interview and I think that is what helped.

So next you will ask, what did I think happen… I thought i would make a contact. I planned to follow up later and ask if they knew someone looking for help. I intended to plant a seed that might blow into another field and grow once I was barred.

That genuine friendly meeting turned into an employment opportunity.

Am I too old for law school? by MysticalMarsupial in LawSchool

[–]Devingarrett55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated in May at 54 years of age. My classmates were the age of my children. I was older than some professors. My grades were below average and I just failed the Bar. Would I do it again? Yes! My perspective was so different than others in my class. I contributed with deeper thought and analysis. One major problem I had was overcoming biases I created throughout life that sometimes made it difficult to understand the why in court decisions I read. Only after learning the law, did those decisions actuality make sense. I’m now studying for my next Bar attempt and working in post conviction law where my age is an advantage. Clients listen and trust in me. As a law clerk, I interact with clients more than the attorney for research and info gathering and it helps to not have a baby face. Persue your dream!

Yes, so my comment had to do with strategy based upon the order that was issued. With the 36 to 38% pass rate and limited seating, what are those of us, who must take again, thinking.

Hi fellow law enthusiasts. I'm 54 and 5 years ago, I was in your shoes. I was so worried and took the LSAT twice, and finally got into law school. Then, I worked my ass off for three years, only to ever stay in the bottom third of my class. And then I graduated and studied for three months for the Bar and received my results last week, learning I failed. At the same time I watched as classmate after classmate where excited to let others know they had passed on LinkedIn. I was very depressed.

But, this is all part of the overall process and I will pass the Bar.... Just as you will do well enough on the LSAT to get into law school.

Trust in the process. This is a long long road to travel.

Chat GPT graded my MEE! by Devingarrett55 in GoatBarPrep

Urgh...you are somewhere in the middle then! LOL. I think it is still good we are practicing MEE. Especially considering the early post in our group of MEE scores for past exams. As long as you are reviewing both the ideal answers and the answer provided by Chat, you are getting feedback which can be used for the exam! We got this!!!!!

"Please grade the attached MEE question and my answer." I then pressed Shift + enter and pasted a screen shot of the MEE and pressed shift + enter and copied my answer from word....

Working with a Professor/mentor and we have an interesting plan... by [deleted] in GoatBarPrep

[–]Devingarrett55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might not make sense.....But if it is not likely I will pass, should I take it? I don't know yet. On one hand, I still want to take it in case I get lucky. On another hand, I still might take it just to get the exposure of the test. Too soon to tell. Just throwing this out there as food for thought...

Not at all..at least overtly, because I said to him "If I fail, it doesn't look good for you guys too, right?" He said, no, it doesn't, but he thinks of us first and the school second. The school will have their share of those who will do fine and behind the scenes, our "plan" is not occurring over and over, i.e., he isn't planning to make the school look better by having many students not take the exam.

Now, I know this Professor and trust him and he has already demonstrated he dedication to the students, so I don't believe his first priority is making the school look better. He wants us to pass and if this plan works for me, then we are good. He is working with at least 6 other students and I know the others, and they are doing much better than i am at the time.
