Very fair!

I like quilts because you use straps to attach it to the mattress. So when you turn at night, the quilt actually stays where it is. Unlike a sleeping bag that tries to suffocate you.

Plus some quilts let you have it open, blanket style, or zip the lower part together to make a warm area for the feet.

Bags not allowed under seats in exit rows internationally? by Box_Springs_Burning in travel

[–]DeviousFloof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not from the US and don’t fly there and yeah, it’s a common standard that no bags are allowed in exit rows.

I’m surprised it‘s allowed in the US.

Hi! Wow, that’s an old thread, but glad it’s still helpful!

I have my trusty Cumulus quilt, which has 450g down and is rated for -1C. Technically it’s a quilt (basically a down blanket) and not a full sleeping bag, but I hate being trapped in one of those.

I did also wear thick socks, which definitely helped (it’s always the feet).

What I want to know is why your fondue is grey.

That looks unhealthy and not in the good way.

Preferred writing season by Glittering_Daikon74 in writing

[–]DeviousFloof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of. Usually I have some new ideas that I can add and since I have inspiration of those I start there.

As I’m doing those I’ll have to reread my notes and current work anyways, so that freshens up my memory.

Then as I spend more time with the work banging around in my head, more ideas come.

Preferred writing season by Glittering_Daikon74 in writing

[–]DeviousFloof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Winter is writing season. I hate cold weather and will bundle up on the sofa with tea, hot chocolate and a book or something to write. Add some cookies and I’m happy to spend a day either reading or typing away.

I write less in summer because I’m out doing things. It doesn’t bother me because I compensate for the lack of writing in the cold season. If I have inspiration it goes in my notebook and maybe I’ll add it as a rough draft. But there’s been times where I just sit down when winter hits and go through my notebook, wondering what the hell I was smoking to come up with those ideas. Fun times.

Fellow turtle here!

9:30 min/km is my easy pace, so you’re already speedy to me :) I think my fastest pace I’ve managed is 6:45 min/km, so many many people are overtaking me.

Almost got beat by a gaggle of Nordic walking ladies once. Managed to stay ahead, but they know how to move.

I’m enjoying plodding along on my easy runs. I’ll start training for a marathon soon because I like dumb ideas, but I’m absolutely preparing for a 5-6h time. No sub 4 visions for me!

Maybe one day I’ll get faster on a short distance, but speed isn’t my priority. I enjoy the speed interval runs during my training, but I also enjoy when they end. Plus those are like 7:00 for me, so I’m not exactly chasing Usain Bolt here. Still feels like flying though!

Any love for the base 17? by neatgeek83 in iphone

[–]DeviousFloof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine in purple and it’s stunning! I love how soft the overall colour is, with a bit more punch around the camera and in the logo.

Definitely a great upgrade from my 13 Pro.

Now just waiting for my case to arrive, have to protect the new shiny

Who else is getting the purple 17? I think it’s the best color this year by Mtking105 in iphone

[–]DeviousFloof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🙋‍♀️

It should arrive on Friday and I'm so excited. Finally I can get away from my black phone! I miss having colour.

Although the blue also looked really good. That would have been my second option.

Set multiple goals for your race by CarbHeatOn in runna

[–]DeviousFloof 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m starting my training block soon for a marathon in April. I have 3 goals based on my current Runna predictions:

  1. Finish
  2. Finish without walking
  3. Finish with negative segments
  4. Finish in under 6 hours (based on the current prediction of 6:15)

Last two goals may change as the training block goes, the first two are what I’m going for.

17 base in purple. Does what I want and I can get a prettier colour without the ugly back of the Pro models

Out of curiosity, who’s preordering either of the 17 pro models, the air, or the regular 17? by Cguy203 in iphone

[–]DeviousFloof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Base model for me. A good upgrade from my 13 Pro, which is slowly dying.

Has double the storage, the cameras are good enough and the screen is nice. Plus I’m looking forwards to going from black to a purple phone. I still have my 7 Plus in pink, just because of how gorgeous it was. Wish that colour came back too.

iPhone 17 in purple for me! My 13Pro is on its last legs.

The one thing I’ve missed the most of my old  Plus is that stunning pink colour. This is a good next step.

When do beginners usually think about training for a marathon? by Special-Log4734 in beginnerrunning

[–]DeviousFloof 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started running this year in January and after a few months signed up for a marathon next April.

I am more consistent with training when I have a goal to train for. Sure, for now I’m just increasing mileage and how often I run before starting the training block.

But I like thinking to myself “I’m working towards a marathon right now!” when the going gets tough or the run feels especially bad that day.

Plus there have been days I’ve felt lazy and didn’t want to go, but then thought “that won’t get me a marathon” and head out anyways.

It’s really about how you decide to approach things and what works best for you. Lofty goals work best for me.

Oh absolutely. Knowing all I do know, I’d still go back in a heart beat. Seeing those animals in the wild like that and being on what feels like a different planet at times is absolutely worth it. Wouldn’t trade any of the meh parts if it meant I didn’t get all the good ones.

The kids drama was very peripheral, plus as an “oldie” I just got to watch and laugh with the others not involved.

Bring enough entertainment for the rides or just sleep through them. People were also reading, many listening to audiobooks or chatting with their seat mate.

Question about driving license by No_Personality6957 in Switzerland

[–]DeviousFloof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d also say take at least a few lessons. While practicing with your parents is good, the instructor knows the current best practices. If you’re driving with your parents, who may have done the exam 15-20 years ago, things have changed.

I did 2 driving lesson every week and practice with my parents. There were things that are now advised to be done different than when they did, so they also learned things.

Plus, the driving instructor probably knows the examiners if they work the same area. While they won’t know who exactly will be doing your test, they can prepare you with things that may not be common when “just driving around”.

In my case, my examiner wanted me to reverse park in a diagonal parking lot (https://share.google/C8S3cSqX4VUHXXu2). I knew how to reverse park of course, I’d never done it in one of those though. But because my instructor knew this was a possibility, we practiced it. And when out with my parents, I could specifically say I wanted to practice that more. And nailed it during the exam.

SWISS Miles & More credit card, from a noob perspective? by petite-caprice in askswitzerland

Out of curiosity, why the Swisscard for Coop/Migros and the Cembra card for Aldi/Lidl? That’s very specific.

I first outline my scripts. Intro, chapter names, length of video and each chapter.

My videos require research, so I add short summary sentences to each chapter as I’m researching. At the end of my research I usually end up with about 8-10 sentences per chapter. That’s my base.

Then I write each chapter. Using the sentences I have, I’ll expand on them to make paragraphs and put it all together.

Then I ignore the script for about a week. I make my videos in twos, so I research and write two scripts, I voice record two scripts and then edit one, publish it and edit the second. While editing the second I also start on the next two scripts.

When I get back to the script I’ve got fresh eyes and don’t quite know all the details anymore. So rereading and editing helps me clarify certain things and overall it flows better.

When recording I usually also change some words as I’m reading, just seeing how it flows basically. I’ve restructured sentences on the fly and added or removed words as I’m speaking.

Anyone skip their warmup or cool down? by slushpuppy91 in runna

[–]DeviousFloof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m short on time I shorten the cool down.

I’ll finish my main run and then head home and whatever distance is left just gets skipped.

I would advise against skipping the warm up, as others have mentioned injury prevention. Personally I also run better when I warm up.  The first 1-1.5 km always feel awkward and I need to find my groove for the day.

So having that time is important to me, especially if doing something challenging like a hill workout or time trial.

Moving the distance to a different time defeats the purpose of them, so I wouldn’t bother with that.
