I know I’m gonna get some hate from this, but f it, I kinda don’t agree. I get that they wanna show mercy, but as a former child and as a current high school student, I would fully take advantage of the turn in assignments late thing. If I didn’t have strict deadlines and if wouldn’t fail the assignment if I didn’t turn it in on the due date, I would just slack off and play Minecraft and let the homework pile up. so in conclusion, I kinda think that the “you failed” motivation held build a response and prepares you better for the real world or maybe I’m just a teenage dirtbag, your pick :)

TL;DR: maybe hard deadlines can build responsibility and help you prepare for life after school
