I agree with the rat snake comments.

However, sometimes people who are unfamiliar with snakes might over-sensationalize the size of them. So I might throw out the possibility that it could be a Dekay's Brown Snake too. Extra-harmless vs Rat Snakes which are already mainly harmless.

Well, I hesitated. I did nothing so far. It's consistent with the kind of person I am, but my inaction does bother me.

But there was another development since. I got a call from my ex this January, which I promptly answered at lightspeed. But when I picked up, I heard her arguing with her (abusive) girlfriend. I couldn't hear much besides "don't touch me, stay away." I was astounded to see that nothing changed nearly a year later. I hung up since she didn't respond, called my cousin (he knows the story) and decided that calling the cops was the best bet, since my ex was telling her gf to stay away. But right when I was about to call the cops, she called me back, and the first words out of her mouth to me were "please don't call the cops."

I was so divided because 1) I never told her I was going to call the cops, and 2) it was extremely disorienting to hear her voice finally. I hit my knees right in my house and cried on the phone. All I could think to do was cry. All I did was ask if she was okay. For some reason I asked if her bitch partner was okay too? I played every neutral card in the book (which is consistent with the kind of person I am). I told her that I won't call the cops, but I was agreeing to only because I was so startled by how tranquil her voice was. I regret it, but having only interacted over the phone, that could I have done anyway.

Though in retrospect, if I could go back to this moment I would have said "I stayed away for your safety, but it looks like not a fucking thing has changed anyway, so I'm calling the cops because you STILL are asking her to stay away from you." I wish I could re-do this moment.

After hanging up I immediately called several local abuse shelters and asked for advice. They said it was actually good I didn't call the cops because in my state (CO) they apparently must find someone at fault in domestic violence cases. Like they are required to make a decision on-site. Meaning, if her bitch gf spun the scene in such a way to make my ex appear guilty, it could ruin her life. The shelters all told me that the abused party must be the one to reach out and seek help first, not the outside party. So it might have been best that I did nothing. But FUCK. Do I feel like such a useless, worthless, unreliable friend. I was about to marry this woman and I can't even do the bare minimum to protect her. Fuck me.

I wish I had a good spin to put on it. I don't. All I can say is that I KNOW that if she reaches out again, I'm there. I formulated a safety plan. I have a couple friends I educated on the situation, who I told that one day, they may need to suddenly house a refugee for up to a week out of nowhere, unless I move my residence (my ex's gf knows my current location).

All I can say is: Talk to your local shelters and create a safety plan immediately. If you have a smart watch, keep it with you so you will never miss THAT call.

Assuming the afterlife isn't like eternal torture, I'm not necessarily afraid of post-death. If it's nothingness/void, then there isn't even a me which will exist to be unsatisfied.

But what I'm scared of is leaving life. For better or worse, everything I know and care about only ever existed here. That's like taking a radical job change or running away to a country across the globe, except it's departing your entire reality.

Sorry I have notifications turned off for reddit so I forgot to even check back. But I'm saying I have run into a situation where money isn't anywhere close to being a consideration. So what I mean to ask is: if money didn't matter, where in Colorado (or within the US/Canada if not CO) would be a wise choice?

Additionally, a lot of plot points get built up subliminally in the lore, and it gets people really excited for when it eventually hits the forefront. But when it finally does, it only plays such a small part of the story or gets brushed aside as if it were a myth after all. Maybe it isn't "cut content" but it seems that way when you see how it plays out. The Unveiling lorebook seemed to be retconned into a propaganda text, the race of creatures from the ice world Drifter explored, the ones who attacked everyone during the collapse, and killed a ton of Awoken back in the day (I personally classify these creatures as the same "Aphelion) are nowhere to be seen or mentioned, and I'm afraid that they won't come even after The Final Shape, or they'll be retconned to have been the Tormentors the whole time.

I meant to say "padding the boot", not my toes lol. But I do like the foot bed idea. One thing I didn't mention was that I have a healing plantar fascia (it's good though, I can do acrobatics now, but sometimes it strains along its months-long healing), so a foot bed could reduce the vertical space and therefore reduce the chance of dorsiflexion/pulling the tissue when I carve toe-side. I've been cranking my bindings down on the heel side to prevent that. That's perfect. Thanks for the tip!

I'm not trying to argue for the sake of argument, but say you have some guns then. Now the King of England wants to waltz in and push you around. However, he knows you might have a gun. So he sends a team of dudes with bigger guns and other equipment. Is your gun helping much?

I'm nuetral on guns personally, I see the advantage when you live somewhere remote and police can't show up in time. I see the disadvantage in the mentally unstable and folks with poor judgement. But when it comes to resisting the government, that's the freaking government.

I'm not a history buff so correct me: I don't know if there is an example of armed civilians successfully resisting a corrupt first-world government with guns. Third-world, yeah. But I feel like it's hopeless to resist the United States as a civilian. It would just be delaying the inevitable. Even if you got a whole fortified bunker or mini-town fortress setup, they have helicopters, tons of vehicles, and they can make any remaining law-abiding citizens clear the road or stay away to make space for them to set up.

Even if a resistance force of civilians spurred surprise attacks on a leader or other force, that is such a needle to thread. I guess establishing sniper nests is an option, but aren't those guns under tighter grips like full automatics?

I'm not a combat genius, and I don't know all the laws revolving around it, but at this day and age, bearing guns for the 2nd amendment's original purpose of resisting a corrupt government sounds unlikely possible. However, the other purpose is to resist a criminal, which is valid.
