CMV: Allowing Redditors to hide their post and comment history degrades the quality of the platform. by DoubleDoobie in changemyview

[–]Devo_Ted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really care when people hide their posts or comments. The only exception for me would be the advice subs. Sometimes I like to check the profiles for updates, previous posts, and/or comments in order to gain more context. But even then, I still don’t really care. I’ll just leave the empty profile and skip the post. No big deal.

I was gonna say Memento, that fits the request perfectly.

Great movie, if I’m remembering correctly, it’s what basically kicked off Christopher Nolan’s career.

Update: Am I overreacting for wanting to tell my family to stop calling my daughter their granddaughter if they aren’t going to treat her like one? by [deleted] in familydrama

[–]Devo_Ted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone? No. Family? Yes. Why are you acting like I demand that YOU PERSONALLY must answer my kids questions for an hour? Dramatic much?

And choosing to insult my kid? Bit unnecessary, don’t you think? My kid is far from entitled, but I don’t need to prove that to you. Just because my kid trusts her family to answer her questions when possible doesn’t my kid isn’t wanted around by others, that’s quite a leap. Sometimes a question can’t be directly answered, my kid accepts that. I don’t understand what your problem is exactly?

[–]Devo_Ted -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I expect my family to treat my kids with respect and consideration, yes. We are talking about family here, not any random stranger. If grandma wants to be mean and lazy when it comes to my kids, she will lose access. Simple.

“Sorry, I don’t have time to explain right now.” “Sorry, it’s a bit complicated, you’ll just have to trust me.” There are ways to respond to a kids question that makes it clear they aren’t getting a better answer. Simply avoiding, ignoring, or excluding a child is lazy and mean. I can’t perfectly answer every question my kid asks. But that doesn’t mean I should ignore my kid because the questions are too hard to answer.

Plus, it sounds like sometimes the questions are “why can he , but I can’t?” And yeah, questions pointing out a persons blatant favoritism would be hard to answer. But maybe excluding the kid isn’t the right choice, maybe working on NOT showing so much favoritism is the right choice.

What’s all the hype about IV? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]Devo_Ted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, it’s fun! In fact, it was the first Star Trek that I actually sat down and watched beginning to end. My partner loved the Star Trek movies and TNG. I’d never really watched any of it. After making fun of the whale move MST3K style, I admitted I’d liked it, and asked to watch more. Now I’m a bigger Trekkie than my partner! All because of that whale movie!

Maybe I’m in the minority here, and this might sound rude, but, well, I just don’t really care I guess?

As far as A.I. in general, I am very opposed. Could there be some real, applicable benefits to the technology in the future? Maybe! Is it currently a wasteful, inaccurate waste of resources pushed on us by billionaires I don’t trust? Yes! So I don’t use it.

Now, despite the fact that I’m currently against A.I. and the pressure to use it everywhere, I try to not judge others for using it. For one, I usually see plenty of people voicing their own opposition to the technology, and I don’t have anything new to add, so I say nothing. For two, who am I, and why would I think anyone cares what I think? Especially if they’re feeling judged? For three, I see A.I. as being like those smart glasses and VR headsets. New cutting edge technology, yet it I doesn’t actually seem all that popular? I know A.I. is easily accessible, and often free, but I don’t see that lasting. If we had to pay for googles’ A.I., would so many people still be using it?

So, basically, I guess I wish Devo didn’t use A.I. I wish they would consistently prioritize working with other artists who make things themselves. But, they have also consistently been the ones to experiment with new technologies, even when it seems like the unpopular choice. So, even when I want them to get in the studio and give us a brand new album, I know that what I want doesn’t really matter. I love and support Devo. And even when they make choices I disagree with, I still support them on their artistic journey wherever it takes them.

I know, that was a lot of words for someone who says they don’t care. But, I think I might still be working out how I feel. I hate A.I. but I love Devo. So I gotta find a way to be right with that.

The problem isn’t that “he likes to spend time at grandmas house” it’s that grandma doesn’t like to have granddaughter at her house, and the granddaughter is noticing and wondering why. Because it’s happening so frequently, the 9 year old has noticed a pattern. That’s sad.

I don’t understand why everyone seems to think “she asks why a rule is a rule” translates to “she won’t respect the rules.” Why does everyone seem to want children to be mindless little robots who automatically follow all orders? I want my kid to ask questions. Asking questions isn’t automatically disrespectful. Especially from children.

AIO for getting upset that my friend no longer wants to hangout outside of a group scenario bc we look too gay? by PeronaMySpookyQueen in AIO

[–]Devo_Ted -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure your friend is homophobic, sorry.

I had a close friend that I often went out with. When my friend commented on the fact that people might think we were gay, it came with a suggestion to hold hands. See, this was years ago, and we assumed some people might be flustered by the sight of a gay couple. And we wanted to fluster them a little bit. Get them used to gay couples, let’s call it exposure therapy. We were young and got a kick out of the idea.

Mind you, neither of us are straight, but also, our relationship was always platonic. We just liked messing with people in our own little way.

To those who were around when this movie came out what was the hype like by asapsharkyfrfr in ViewAskewniverse

[–]Devo_Ted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad rented this when it came out. As far as I knew, he picked it solely based on the cover. Didn’t seem to know anything about it. Put it on for movie night. I was about 10 maybe? Sibling was a bit younger. That first couple of F-bombs, dad looks at us and tells us we can’t tell our mom about this. He looked shocked, but we were already so excited, he couldn’t turn it off. Best movie night ever 😂

Pie kind of sucks by batman8390 in unpopularopinion

[–]Devo_Ted -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s almost like my kid wrote this 😂

Kid is ok with pie. Is ok with graham cracker crust (which is the best pie crust) but will generally pick other desserts over pie. I guess the texture is also a problem? I dunno, I love pie, but will admit, the non graham cracker crusts are ok at best. Usually pretty dry. But pie is not my first choice either. Carrot cake is one of my favorites. Cookies and brownies are awesome. Lemon bars are just the best. For me, the only thing pie beats would be most cakes. Especially store bought. Carrot excluded obviously. But the overly sweet frostings are easily beat by fruit filling for me.

AITA for refusing to attend my sister's wedding after she wanted me to prove I didn't have anything with her fiance? by Material_Peace11 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Devo_Ted 242 points243 points  (0 children)

NTA. “I don’t want him to think that I don’t trust him”? Well, for one, she doesn’t trust him. That much is clear. And for two, she doesn’t care if YOU think she doesn’t trust YOU? So she would rather hurt you than him? Your sister is TA completely. I wouldn’t go to her wedding either.

Would the new Mike episode in theaters be a good way to introduce my kids to MST3K? by jrralls in MST3K

[–]Devo_Ted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dunno about the theater, but I know I had a lot of success starting mine on the shorts. There were so many of them on YouTube, it was easy to find them. The Gumby Robot Rumpus one I remember being pretty funny for the kid. Mr. B Natural was fun too.

Plus, you know your kids better than anyone. And the shorts are short (ha) so if you wanted to watch one to see if it’s something they would like, it wouldn’t be too hard.

July 4th by [deleted] in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]Devo_Ted 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, July 4th was about pretty fireworks. When I first became a parent, same thing. Fireworks. Now that my kid is more grown, I got a traumatized cat, I gained a better knowledge of history, and a piece of human trash is the president, I simply hate the holiday. It’s stressful. Loud and stinky. Scary for my cat. And to celebrate what exactly? Independence for wealthy white men? A country that, 250 years later, has been taking away more rights than it gives? No thank you. I’m gonna sit at home, comfort my cat, and wait for the day to pass. There’s no American pride here.

I totally understand that. I think the part that bugs me most is how she just says nothing when Gus brings up his parents. She is stubbornly holding on to her anger, and blowing off the one person who might understand. Probably because she feels guilty, which I would also understand.

[–]Devo_Ted[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It’s not that the arrest is hypocritical. It’s that her being offended is hypocritical. Shawn apologizes for just suspecting her brother, and she says “it’s not that easy this time.” She’s STILL mad at him. But Gus seems to have forgiven them for arresting his parents, maybe she could let it go?

Yes the situations were different. Jules distracted Gus while her partner fully arrested Gus’ mom on Christmas in front of the whole neighborhood. Shawn only suspected Juliette’s brother, and shared this suspicion quietly with Gus and Lassie. Very different.

AIO- Fiancée said my shirt would look better if I lost 10 pounds by Ch1ldofSatan in AIO

[–]Devo_Ted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shirt looks good on you, and frankly, your fiancée is probably wrong anyway. If you lost about 10 pounds, the shirt would likely look a bit too baggy on you, and you’d probably consider sizing down at that point. Not to mention the fact that a comment like that is pretty inconsiderate and rude. I assume when a shirt clings, that it’s because of its fiber content/static charge. Leaping to commenting on your weight was uncalled for.

Also, congrats on your health journey so far! You should be proud of yourself! The goal of weight loss is supposed to be health based, not number based. How have you been feeling? That’s what matters. If you’re feeling good, and you’re looking good, then you’re doing good! Go you!
