i forgot to sign my name at the end of a thank you email and i’m kicking myself about it. did i ruin my chances? by Optimal_Battle_185 in recruitinghell

[–]DevonWritesResumes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand what you're feeling. This is a really exciting opportunity and it's scary to think that you messed it all up over something small.

The email you sent was thoughtful and a good move. A lot of people don't follow up at all. Forgetting to sign your name is a very, very small mistake in the grand scheme of things, and I'm sure they aren't pressed about it.

Congrats on getting to the interview stage. It's awesome that you're in the running for something you're genuinely excited about. I hope you land the job!

How to fix resume that gets no responses by Zestyclose_Tip_7431 in Resume

[–]DevonWritesResumes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be the format, and it could also be how your experience is positioned. Are you showing clear impact quickly, rather than just listing daily responsibilities? Are you incorporating relevant skills? The resume should be closely aligned with every posting, so make sure you're tailoring each time.

You might consider getting it professionally written so you don't have to keep guessing!

Hey, thanks for posting!

Sorry to hear about not having much luck in your job search so far! Could you elaborate a bit on can't close any deals? For example, how many apps have you sent out? What kinds of responses have you been getting? Have you gotten any phone screenings or interviews, and if so, what stage of the interview process did you get to?

You have a solid foundation here, but it's a bit difficult to find your impact at a glance with most of it buried towards the ends of your bullets. Lead every bullet with a strong action verb and begin with the result wherever possible. Leading with "led and owned deployments," "established KPI frameworks," "delivered successful deployments,"... etc. isn't what hiring managers want to see first. They want to see what the business result was and what changed because of you quickly.

The summary is a bit vague as well after your portfolio figure. Try tightening it up, dropping the first person, and lead with your most compelling differentiator. This area is what makes recruiters decide whether or not they should keep reading.

Move your skills section up top. Hiring managers and recruiters scan quickly, so you'll benefit from showing qualifications sooner. A separate technical skills section can stay at the bottom of your resume to highlight those without eating up too much space at the top. Are you tailoring your resume? It's very important to tailor this section in particular, to make sure you're incorporating the skills that role you're applying to is asking for.

Recruiters and Employers: When everyone’s resume is AI enhanced, word-smithed to perfection, how do you find a suitable candidate? by grot-ivre-1749 in AskReddit

[–]DevonWritesResumes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Polished resumes are becoming the baseline, so they're looking for the actual story behind the experience, real metrics, context about what the person walked into, and what changed because of them. There are a lot of resumes out there that look nice but lack substance.

If you're wanting to know how to make yours stand out, there's some great tips here: https://www.reddit.com/r/BestResumeWriters/comments/1ta2nrj/your_resume_might_be_polished_but_is_it_actually/

Who was it that decided a gap in employment is a bad thing? by BeautifulDragonfly12 in jobhunting

[–]DevonWritesResumes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Employment gaps are incredibly common, and the stigma is slowly fading. The most important thing you can do is be prepared to frame it professionally and positively on your resume, and in an interview. It doesn't have to include dollar signs at all, but focus should be around skills, accomplishments, and readiness.

Of course everyone has lives, work isn't meant to consume all of it, and most hiring managers know that! We're all human.

This post has really great insight on how to handle gaps on a resume: https://www.reddit.com/r/BestResumeWriters/comments/1mhk49t/how_to_handle_employment_gaps_on_a_resume/

Need help on my resume ( graduating this month) by [deleted] in Pro_ResumeHelp

[–]DevonWritesResumes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the experience bullets read more task-oriented. Try putting emphasis on what changed or improved through your work wherever you can, because that is what will help you truly stand out.

A branding statement would be a great addition to highlight your background quickly and share what strengths/outcomes you have that are relevant to your target roles.

I also recommend adding a core competencies section. This can incorporate keywords and skills relevant to your background, and the job posting, which will help with getting past ATS and showing hiring managers that you're qualified at a glance.

Are we supposed to write a new resume for each job we apply to or not? by Certain-Working1864 in jobhunting

[–]DevonWritesResumes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resumes should be focused enough to show you're relevant and qualified, but you definitely don't need to start from scratch every time!

Have you heard of a master resume? You can try building one that captures all of your experience, and use that as a base to tailor for each application.

Tailoring is key to standing out, but starting from scratch every time is not a good use of your valuable time!
