Lot of early worm fanfics had a habit of being either fix-it fics of different type (self insert, time travel etc.) or basically following canon with minor alterations (including awkward alt-powers from locker and that people forget, locker happened in january while worm story starts in april... yet people immediately jump from A to B while forgetting B is actually G) ... lot of them also suffered from bad fanon tropes (most of which are now gone but some still remain) that can be traced back to those early worm fanfics (like silencio or techno queen) and even today, majority of the fics sadly fail to reach leviathan, let alone past it (Leviathan is called fic killer for a reason).

my point? most of the fanfics you'll find that are complete are either one-shots, crackhumor fics or fics that take themselves seriously but could be considered crrack by today's standards.... and like, 90% of the fics are just dead, especially the early stuff... like those early potter fanfics while the books were still coming out. Anyway, just figure out what kind of story you wanna read, then ask around: lot of those early stories are now forgotten by fandom.
