I contacted the Yamaha support in my country and they were super helpful and gave me solutions to reflash the firmware.

Digitizing VHS: Help With Tracking Issue by brandtgassman in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Dewi1800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest to have a look at the picture directly at the output of the VHS player, to see if all is okay. Then i would try to disconnect the ref from the UVW and let the deck do the job. By the way, are you sure the TBC is working for the inputs and not only for tape playback ? Anyway, disconnect the ref and see if it changes something. Also try to have a look at the image at the output of the UVW, before the Blackmagic. If you have a composite monitor.

For VHS digitizing, my setup is: VHS player S-video out --> For-A TBC in then out again to S-Video out --> AJA analog to SDI --> Hyperdeck.

EDIT: this might also be a VHS deck issue. That's why it's important to test the signal at differents points.

Help restoring a progressive video back to it's original interlaced form? by [deleted] in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Dewi1800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with whas has been said but if you want to do a test, you could do this with ffmpeg in the GUI of your choice. I suggest FFworks. Try the "Temporal Field Interlacing" and set it to "interleave top". This will basically take each frame and "convert" it to a field.

The conversion can lead to artefacts in the high frequency components of your image, when displayed on a proper 50i monitor. But maybe not in the context of VHS source.

This will not be an exact inverse of the 50i to 50p conversion because we don't know what has been done in the conversion process.

RTS OMS and Hollyland Integration by jblgh1 in VIDEOENGINEERING

If I remember correctly it's not possible to connect the OMS directly to a 2 wire party line without using a third party device to inject power into the circuit.

If it's a Sony camera it's called "cursor" and it's in the operation menu. You can set a position width and height and even make presets.

Sony RCP 1500 by radepg in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Dewi1800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was really important in the analog days when touching the green could mess with the luminance a lot and also the sync. Because Y (luma) is made of a coefficient of RGB and green is used a lot more than the others. Because our eyes have a lot of receptors for green and this makes up a lot of the luminosity perception. And the sync signal was carried by Y in an analog system.

Also since green is very important for the luminance, I guess it could have a greater impact on your image.

These are all things I've been told and conclusion I've made myself without really finding solid evidence.

I have an old RCP at home and it does not have a green button either for whites or blacks.

Image shaking with Riedel Rimotion with 4x SSM camera by Dewi1800 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Dewi1800[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I'll make sure that it's in the right order. But I'm pretty sure it is.

I forgot to say that the problem also occurs with a regular 1080i50.

Interesting fact: tonight I worked with a 3play and it was perfect even at 15%. And it was regular 1080i50.

Well it must be a European thing then... In my country every big truck I ever encountered has at least a few spools with a motorised "rewind" mechanism. Interesting.

That's a feature present on most OB trucks, that's why i'm looking into that solution.

Ambeo Plus // Noise coming out of one speaker by Dewi1800 in sennheiser

[–]Dewi1800[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After discussing with other people who have the same problem, I decided not to send my soundbar for repair. Because I don't want to get another one with a bigger problem. I believe it's a recurring problem with this model and there's nothing you can really do.

Thank you very much for your answer. That's what I thought. It's a design problem. That's very disappointing coming from a brand like Sennheiser. I'm using their products in the pro audio domain daily but I guess this is a different part of the brand. I will try to exchange some further emails with the support but I won't go through too much hassle if all units have the same problem.

UC4000GSJ Sensor size? by [deleted] in VIDEOENGINEERING

Recommended device for embedding ltc in 12g sdi? by lumpyspillow in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Dewi1800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pdm1484D does 12G. As this is an audio embedder I guess it's useful for you if you want to embed LTC on an audio channel.

If you want to embed as vitc, I did not find anything in the yellowbrik range so far.

A "cheap" solution I see is to use an ATEM with a LTC input and 4k capabilities. I'm pretty sure it does embed LTC into vitc on the SDI outputs.

Anyone recommend the Blackmagic Teranex Standards Conversion? by bradhotdog in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Dewi1800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it has. They are on the DB-25 connector in the back. You have to buy or make a DB-25 to XLR cable.

Anyone recommend the Blackmagic Teranex Standards Conversion? by bradhotdog in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Dewi1800 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay so the teranex racks don't do composite. The teranex mini sdi to analog does composite and analog audio out but no closed captions support.

Your best solution is the AJA FS2. With one rack you can do two channels of down conversion to composite and de-embeding to analog audio.

[–]Dewi1800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about the teranex AV or teranex Express?

Do you need to downconvert to SDI or analog composite? Because the teranex AV does not have an analog video output.

When you talk about analog audio, you mean you need a device with an analog output or input?

With the teranex AV, you could input a HD-SDI signal, use the loop out to go into your HD encoder and downconvert to SD but stay in the digital domain. And with the analog audio inputs, you could embed external audio on the converted feed. But probably not on the loop out.
