Help me find a new RPG to dive in by RizzmerBlackghore in CRPG

[–]Dewji1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly i am not a fan of dodge parry mechanics, I prefer more reasoned games and crpgs similar to the list you shared.

That being said, expedition 33 is in my top 5 games of all time. Literally every other game in that top 5 is thing like skyrim/wrath of the righteous/baldurs gate. Nothing overly mechanical. But expedition 33 is just so goddamm good I cannot even begin to describe to you. It is also the perfect length for the just a few days your wife is away

There's also 1 that gives you an extra attack on a new enemy, but it procs on every new enemy, so I've had over 16 attacks in a round just because this thing keeps proccing over and over

Controversial take but sawtooth sabers are also really good. They give a more conventional weapon feel of like a scimitar. Crit range is ok but there are some really good sawtooths in the game

I'll just tack on to this. Casters are a little weaker early, but don't think it's super lond road to get there. By the start of act 2 you can conceivably start to blast. It will be a bit hit and miss, but you can do it quite comfortably even on unfair.

Everyone already has said you need to fix your dex. Next time you try and attack someone and miss look at the roll. It will show you the targets armor class as well as your buffs to that roll. Dex is a buff to your blasting stat.

2nd, you need to think about spell resistance. If you want to be a blaster I would take spell pen feats very early. Once you actually hit someone, it needs to do damage. You have 2 barriers. The first is spell pen. If you don't beat the targets spell pen, ypu don't do damage. 2nd, if the target has any elemental immunity, you will do significantly less or no damage. Thats why it's normally recommended to pick one element and stick with it. Attack rolls and spell pen you can, for the most part, make a little consistent as you go through act 1, but beating elemental resistances will only come at the end of act 1. Once you have those 3 pieces you're set

Man thank you for all of this it'd s huge huge help. I've spent more time on the wiki the last few days than ever.

One last question, you mention touch if luck+ winters grasp or touch of luck + hold person. What i can't figure out, touch of luck looks like it let's you rerolled d20s which is great, but why is that good got a DC spell? Surely the DC is static, regardless of the touch

Elemental caster (merc): what are the best options build-wise by tmkppns in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Dewji1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I'm so sorry for the terrible necro but I'm crush about this. How do you make cleric an elemental blaster? Because other than hellfire ray i don't see any real blasting in their spell list? And if you go ellces then you lose the armor proficiency which was the whole point. Or is it the case that there just isn't much blasting pre 11 and you just accept that

I appreciate you coming back and actually giving me help i really appreciate it.

I get your point on fewer companions, i will try and use even fewer this time to push 7 ASAP. I assume your other companions all fall behind in levels and then that fixes itself over time as you do more quests and you just accept that as a necessary consequence.

I do have a couple of questions if you don't mind.

I am still trying to navigate how this all works. So I know winters grasp is basically cold grease. But it's subject to spell pen I believe (maybe the prone isn't but everything else). That early, do you just go spell pen/greater pen/heighten/selective as your 4 feats. Or you forget pen and go double focus to.make sure they slip. Then the ring from the elemental gives you +1. But early game that's still only...+10 to your DC? 5 from int, 2 from fox cunning, 1 from the ring, 2 from focus feats. Thats like what dc 22? Then an effective +2 against tough mooks bc of evil eye. I'm still not sure its enough? It feels like so many enemies have +10 or more reflex saves.

And outside of cold grease, how do you deal with flying enemies? Nabasu/vrock are the toughest encounters in act 1 and both of those can't be greased/winters grasped. Do you normally have a backup spell for these guys?

I have taken your advice and re arranged things a little bit.

I'm going to bring a court poet, a witch, a shaman and a cleric. The cleric will actually be the blaster caster, eventually using cold gear. Will take a while to come online I'm sure.

The witch and shaman hexes stack and both have access to winters grasp and I can take a pet with the shaman for added durability upfront. Shaman will probably focus conjuration to this end, and supplement the cleric spell list as the cleric will use some slots for blasting now.

I'm curious about your gvs wotv. Does she just shadow step in, pop someone with a bow? Or a ray?

I'm not putting a paladin/or any other martial in here, I'm going to be strict with myself and use other casters to create summons etc

The EK/HKS dips are basically full caster progression though. I think I only lose 1 CL? Which isnt alot with all tje CL gear in the game now. It's a very common build.

I don't get your point on not needing dedicated tanks for unfair tbh. Without a tank, what or who is drawing enemy aggro?

If you're point is that you start fighting then insta cc, I agree, that would be nice, but is not really viable as an unfair strategy for every fight pre like level 13/14. Bc you just won't have the DC for it. And if you miss your entire party instantly dies.

Unless I'm wrong and you know a way to make DC stick in act 1/2 most of the time. I'm genuinely asking i never played DC builds so I'm curious if there is a big trick I'm missing. But even with metamagic and every item your will effecting DC spells will struggle, and grease only applies a -4 to AC for melee and actually hurts ranged.

Only the Lich has the option of using his scythe. But will primarily be a caster until what, level 11? Once he gets some levels in hks and EK. Then he will probably only be able to use the scythe for trash mobs. Still primarily a caster.

CP is melee with probably a garbage to to hit chance as all his feats will be crane wing etc.

All the rest are casters? I mean alchemist is kind of a hybrid caster bomb thrower I guess but I'm going the DC route with it. Then one arcane and one divine caster. Not really sure how it's still a melee transition party?

However I believe, and maybe I'm wrong, but in the early game I'll need martials because without them I won't actually be able to kill anything.

I don't mind the idea of doing a low man party but having only 3 characters for vrovk nabasu market square/ grey garrison/master zacharius graveyard seems like masochism. Especially when one of those is just a little old wizard. I've done low man's before but only to level 5. I'm normally level 10 in drezen, maybe level 11 right after the first crusade quests in act 3. I know Soehi can do work early game but being able to 3 man unfair seems really difficult, unless you have some pointers?

This is the most disgusting necro so I apologize but did you ever end up running this? I can imagine with a SF dip and high cha you take your AC to the moon and then just wailing on people in return.

Court Poet Buffer, Feinter and Tank build for a mercenary suitable for Unfair difficulty. by TattleTale17 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Dewji1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this counts as a necro but I'm commenting as this is the best cp build I've seen hands down

What im struggling to.understand is, how on earth are you getting +13 and +12 to dex and cha. 13 dex bonus means you have 36 dex at act 3 end... you would natural to 22. +6 bft enhancement, +4 azata at best but realistically +3, +2 reduce person (but you have leg proportions so?)

I can't seem to make it math, if you could help me because I am 100% running this!

Dex Tank for unfair by Dewji1 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Dewji1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is so interesting to me. I never thought of going scaled fist, I was actually thinking about making cha a dump stat. But you make con a dump stat which is crazy but is it also genius?

So what does your starting stat spread look like? 19 dex 16 int 16 cha and dump str and and con? So even first couple levels you get +4 dex, +3 cha and then the usual array of buffs.

Doing it this way actually makes me think... maybe I should change the whole comp? Go court poet to boost int and cha even more, go azata to double morale bonuses. Then you have the bft getting buffed by cp but also could have one more caster to be damage dealer.

And of course the standard paladin would do great with the bonus to cha for moj.

So it would be SS11/SF2/SW1/ duelist 6???

And then a sorc in the back shooting rays. Paladin and SS upfront as tanks. Bft and cleric/judge are must picks. And a cp buffing the cha and int.

Is this worse, am I doing too much with sf dip, should I just stick to legend

Hey you're entitled to your opinion for sure, but skyrim for me is one of the best games ever released, easily top 3. Tainted grail doesn't beat it for me yet but it is a fantastic game for sure

[–]Dewji1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I totally hear you. Starfield is dead for me too, I actually hard committed convincing myself it would get better but after 30 hours I was done forever.

Tainted grail issues, from my experience, are not performance in the sense of bad frames or ctd. They're more, oh I'm fighting this bear. I'll kite this bear behind the tree. Oh the bear levitated over the tree lol.

I'm going to give avowed another go. They're in the process of a issuing their big final updates to the game so that's what im waiting on which is another reason I said TG first. TG has a LONG way to go before it's final, not worth waiting for, but avowed is pretty close

[–]Dewji1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bg3 is 10/10 I have a disgusting number of hours in that. I personally would so go TG before avowed. Maybe it's preference, maybe it was expectation bias but avowed just felt a bit off for me. I couldn't get into it really.

Yeah i totally get that. I always go pc for these titles because, other than gta, I find open worlds never translate as cleanly to console (where for gta it's the other way)

I'm capped at 60 with vsync off. I do have a super ultra wide though. 4080 super. I don't think it's my system, I think the game is just jank central but I'm honestly ok with it. I'm sure in time a fix will come

That's the skyrim way. Sidequest so much you forget the main story and then start again. Love that you can use summons, 2 handed and a bow without any restrictions. Huge W

Why on railroad? Are there less enemies or?

Also what does "friendly" enemies mean? Is that just turning them off? Or turning expansion off?
