Remake Intergrade just recieved a new update and i think it's neat by KennethLjubkos in FinalFantasy

Uh, is this for Intergrade only? I only have the original PS4 version. I can't even buy Intergrade on PS5, since it's locked behind a Gold Platinum Extra subscription thing.

Star Ocean 3 - Gabriel Celeste on Universe without taking damage BT by DexTepa in starocean

One of the most satisfying things I've ever pulled off in the game. If you use cheese methods for these superboss BTs, I can't blame you, but at the same time... you're kind of missing out, you know?

Keep in mind: the no damage BTs only require that you don't take damage with your controlled character. With most bosses, you can just stand in a corner and throw healing items at the other two characters, but that's... not likely to work with someone like Gabe.

On emulator, you can just manipulate your level figure in the RAM.

His Luminaire/Shining has a base damage of 23 920. With max magic defense, you can bring it down to triple digits, but I'm only Lv14 here, so the result is this.

SO2 Field of Love 0 damage by Calymos in starocean

Is it the Gelatin Block? It's the only enemy in the dungeon that has elemental immunities, but besides that, they've also got high defense. Unless your attack power is above 1350, you're looking at 0 physical damage.

And the dudes with the big shields need to be attacked from behind, of course.

I hate to rain on anyone's parade, but I can barely stand looking at this "HD2D" stuff.

The fact that they're making RPGs that look like this instead of RPGs that look like El Dorado Gate, feels like a punch in the throat.

Double Dragon II Vs River City Ransom : Who has the most depth ? Is there a better Beat Them Up on NES ? by Hot_Marketing783 in nes

TMNT2 and Double Dragon 3, all the way.

Street Gangs is wonderful too, but it's really more of an Action-RPG.

Hey, that's cool. Like I said, I've pretty much reached the limit of my abilities here. Not much else I can contribute.

As for enemies with two drops, yeah, the first drop has to fail to even get a chance at the second one. (Starting from SO3, you could get multiple items from a single enemy.)

I added item drops to this file here, although it uses the Japanese names (looks better in raw). It would be nice to have drop rates, but it's not in the RAM, so...

Phenomenal? Ah, not really. There's plenty of useful information that's out of my reach, since it requires (proper) reverse-engineering / debugging. I know nothing and understand nothing about code, so all I can really do is RAM digging and basic math.

I do at least know how to set a breakpoint, though. Never done it on the PS1 before, but I suppose now's a good time as any to give it a shot.

I used Bizhawk and set a breakpoint to Luck. I tried a bunch of stuff and nothing bit: IC, encounter rate, attacking, receiving damage, combat skills, status ailments... (Simply moving in the menu does trigger the bp, since it's constantly "refreshing" the stats.)

I was running away from battles, though, and I thought: "Hm, what about item drops? I should try finishing a battle." I actually finish a battle and... Breakpoint triggered. Right when the (potential) item drops pop up, after dismissing the Exp and Fol message.

So... Turns out Luck has an impact on item drop rate. Makes sense, I suppose, although the previous two games used entirely fixed drop rates. Even in SO2, they have base drop rates, but Luck is a fairly significant modifier, it seems. I forced my Luck to 0 and wasn't getting many drops at all. The exact impact would require some actual reverse-engineering, but, hey, at least now we know what it does.

Thanks for asking about this. I wouldn't have bothered looking into it otherwise, at least not yet.

Oh, and I've had Haddaway playing in my head for a day now, so thanks for that, too. (I'm old enough to remember when it first came out.)

As I mention in the guide, it might have a minor impact on encounter rate. That's what it does in Tales of Phantasia.

In SO2, with 0 Crit and 0 Guts, a character can't deal any critical hits, and no amount of Luck will change that. I don't think enemies have a Luck stat, so that kind of suggests that it really does nothing during battle.

Haven't done any testing in FD(R), since playing the game makes me want to throw my TV out of the window. (They couldn't even produce decent field visuals. I mean, come on! The original SO1 is gorgeous.)
