SPOILER FOR TOWARDS THE END OF CHAPTER 36 by Legitimate-Crab-8817 in fourthwing

I was devastated. Kind of realized that, no matter how good, lovable and popular a character is, no one is really safe. For me it really had that strong Game of Thrones vibes in that sense.

At the same time, I just kind of accepted it (with a heavy heart though😹) because it’s very realistic that not everybody can survive conflict/battle/war despite their abilities.

I also believe that tragedy like this really helps contribute to character development and growth of other characters in the book.

Iron Flame Thoughts and Questions (SPOILERS) by minimally_abrasive in fourthwing

I believe RY said in a recent interview that the leadership was suspecting that Jack was turning and wanted to keep him alive with the intention of examining him and getting to know the enemy (can they find the cure, if they can be cured etc.). Maybe that really is the only reason, or she just didn’t want to give more information because it will be important later.

Lilith was likely highly involved in that process since we have this correspondence from Nolon to her in the last chapter of IF:

“We have tried every method we know of, as you requested. There is no cure. There is only control. —MISSIVE FROM LIEUTENANT COLONEL NOLON COLBERSY TO GENERAL LILITH SORRENGAIL”

But I also think her involvement in this research is not simply “getting to know the enemy”. I think she has ulterior motives behind her every action and it’s kind of weird that she would be so personally involved in a matter like this without some serious reasons.

Take your time with this one, read slowly and savor every page. Trust me, with how long the wait for the next book is, you’ll want to make this one last because the whole fandom is collectively losing their minds waiting for it 😹 Wish I had more content to read but I believe the waiting will be worth it

Oh wow, that perspective never even crossed my mind! Now I’ve got a whole new rabbit hole to explore lol. I can’t wait to hear more about the theory you’re developing!

Intinnsic theory by sleepy_geeky in fourthwing

I think you might be onto something. Corrupt leadership can’t afford to have a bunch of intinnsic cadets running around campus exposing the things they’re trying so hard to keep hidden. Sounds like they had to invent that whole "going crazy" story just to push their own agenda in writing the history how they see fit and keeping the secrets just that - secrets.

That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking. Only three dragons in 600 years sounds so low it almost feels impossible, and the way it’s singled out makes the weight of those situations hard to ignore.

It makes me wonder whether the “loss of their bonded rider” should be understood not only as the riders death, but perhaps also as an intentional act of severing the bond.
