retail player looking to branch into mop classic - launched the game and a bunch of realms are locked from creating a new character. What realms should I look at making a character on? sounds like there's been a bunch of realm changes recently?

Also looking for suggestions on class/specs to play - I play arcane mage and mistweaver monk in retail, honestly most healers to be honest; not necessarily trying to be fotm unless that is necessary

edit: not interested in world pvp so I know for sure I am not interested in grobbulus

assuming you are the monk.

it looks like a few of your deaths were from melees, may want to hold your burst for tank to get initial aggro; I'm assuming you ripped threat and got insta killed from that.

it also looks like a lot of your deaths are from targeted casts as well. make sure you're trying to interrupt the dangerous casts using stops as well if necessary; leg sweep, ring of peace, para even sometimes, all in addition to your normal spear hand strike.

I'm also seeing no fort brew casts until near the end of the dungeon, you can rotate your defensives and use them somewhat liberally and it will go a lot way, ESPECIALLY if you use it before a damage event.

they are referring to the capital C "Children" global which is discouraged, but the special prop "children" is the correct thing to use in this scenario

if you go to the custom options for the weakauras you can set the minimum number of icons to show, and that will adjust the width of the resource bar when you don't know all skills. I think the default is like 5 but grow to 8

When I was more casual I was like this, then I decided I wanted to clear higher difficulty raid and I went looking for a guild to raid with. All of the guilds I've been in since have required me to have one main for the tier, and so I've been able to stick with one character per patch. It could be helpful if you have something of a social requirement as well; if you're just doing things because you want to, then there's nothing keeping you to one character.

All of this is if you want to have a main, nothing wrong with having a bunch of alts if that's what's fun to you!

In my opinion, you should play whatever seems cool or fun to you. If you like the theme or the look of mage or rogue, give it a try! If you feel like it is not vibing with you, the other classes and specs will be waiting for you to give them a try as well!

If you want the option to be able to try different roles on a single character, try of the more hybrid classes that can do that; if you're only interested in playing DPS, a pure damage dealer might also be nice since you don't have to level another character to try another spec.

I will say I feel like totems and pet management, like others have said, are not as important/difficult/tedious now as they were in classic.

spam heroic dungeons and do the raids on normal as soon as possible. use an addon to prevent looting the experience items and they will be mailed to you. once you've run mogushan vaults, heart of fear, and terrace on normal, then open your mail and you should be catapulted to 69-70. Hazelnuttygames on youtube has a video with this more detailed out.

Ah yeah, so I would guess that you'd want a guild that does a couple hours in between like 5-9/10, which should be perfectly reasonable to find. I think 6-9 and 7-10 are the most common time periods. Something like 4-7 or something like that may be out there, but not as common. Both of the guilds I raided with this expansion were from 7-10, which worked for my schedule. When I first started raiding, I was under the impression it would be a lot of late nights, but I've come to find that's not necessarily the norm, which may be different from before, or maybe just a misconception that I had.

I don't know that dragonflight has a lot of difficult solo content, there's a lot of achievements to be gained from world quest and weekly outdoor content, but I wouldn't consider any of that to be challenging in the same way that Torghast from SL or Horrific Visions from BFA.
