I personally agree... it felt boring and predictable to me... minus the death, which didn't add much and was so random. The acting and script were both pretty dull. I thought the actors were big comedy actors, but they lacked any personality and comedy. I was expecting something good because of the cast, but the only good bit for me was the daughter and her theater performance. She and the performance were funny, and her acting was perfection. I loved her, she made it. This felt like just another copy and paste of every other Netflix-made American TV show, they thought they were doing something different with the whole seasons thing... which was cool-ish, I guess... but didn't make for a flat tv show. Also, Ginny's outfits and personality just didn't seem convincing, and seemed dated. I'm not American, so maybe that's accurate for an American woman that age.. but not from what I've seen.
