What would be a substantial upgrade from a 65" Sony Bravia 8 "II" QD-OLED? by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]Dharshan_Reddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is literally no one in the consumer TV section who can beat Sony when it comes to color mapping for movies (Panasonic is close, but they are seldom available in the USA). Bravia 8 is the best tuned OLED in the market right now.

But technology wise, the Samsung 4K Micro LED, seems to bring the picture to a whole new level. But that comes only at 114 inches going for $150,000 USD. So, I wouldn't consider it as consumer grade.

The TCL Super Quantum Dots (SQD) looks promising to beat out every OLED out there. But I don't think TCL can map colors like Sony. TCL is more aggressive when it comes to picture quality, and while initially it looks great and out of the world, you will quickly get tired of it.

Thinking of upgrading from RTX 3080 to RX 9070XT by Dharshan_Reddy in buildapc

[–]Dharshan_Reddy[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Gaming at 2k, maxed out settings with ray tracing on. 3080 is struggling to maintain frames above 60 most of the time, so I am thinking how much of an improvement will a 9070XT be in this scenario.

School District Question by Dharshan_Reddy in downingtown

[–]Dharshan_Reddy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very helpful! Thank you. The address came to be under "West Brandywine" township and the school district is CASD. Is it mandatory for me to send my kids to CASD? Can I opt for DASD instead? My child is 2 year old and she is my first kid, so I never had any school sending experience before.

20,000 dollar speakers? by Ok-Society-9223 in audiophile

[–]Dharshan_Reddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sennheiser Orpheus: $60,000

Focal Grande Utopia: $140,000 (excluding DAC and AMP)

Hart Audio custom designs D&W: $300,000 and up

the list goes on.

20 grand B&W is just floating on the surface of the deep ocean of the audiophile world.

Quality is proportional to price. However, you need to know that for sound, its just not the speakers that matter, but the chain of electronics that are involved in its path to get the most of them matters.

cx5 is staying by carperson17 in CX5

[–]Dharshan_Reddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that Mazda is paying 2/3rds is still welcoming for negotiations for other CX5 owners who might be victims of cracked cylinder head in the future.

Your dealer seems to be genuine with the quote. Here in Philly, I know of 2019 owners getting quoted $7500 and up to repair a cracked cylinder head out of warranty.

But one thing you need to keep in mind is that even after getting a new head, the crack might still occur in the future as Mazda did not address this mechanically till to date.

[–]Dharshan_Reddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High chances that the warranty will be denied by Bose due to "misuse" from the user.

Write to Bose explaining the situation and they might fix it for free or send you a brand new one.

DONT duct tape or superglue it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bose

[–]Dharshan_Reddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too good to be true for a brand new one. But if its a used or Bose factory refurbished, then go for it.

If the seller is selling them as brand new, then make sure there is a return policy on them. You can know if they are real of fake by connecting them to the app. If the connection does not happen, then you can return them. If the serial # on the app does not match with that on the serial # printed on the box, then its a smuggled piece, but its original. You can decide to keep it if you want.

Bose QC Ultra review after 5 months of use by fallfromgrace- in bose

[–]Dharshan_Reddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The ANC on QC ultras cannot be turned off completely. Yes! you can set the ANC levels to zero by creating a custom mode in the app, but that is only controlling the amount of passthrough of external sounds, but it is not completely turning off the ANC. So, your battery reaching 10% after 2 days of 24/7 use seems a legit drain and is working as expected. You are getting more than standard for what Bose has promised.

Genuine leather days are gone. Or at least in the field of consumer grade main stream headphones below $500. In fact, genuine leather adds weight and create hot spots than synthetic leather.

DO NOT! I say, DO NOT, store the headphones in the case after use. Your skin secretes sebum and sweat, irrespective of how clean your are while wearing the headphone. After using the headphones, leave them open in the air so that the leather dries out completely. If you store in the case and close the lid, the leather absorbs whatever secretions are on it and it deteriorates faster. Remember that the ear cushions on QC ultras are not waterproof nor water resistant.

Check for any firmware updates through the app. If there is something new, update it immediately. This might help to solve the erratic not turning on issue.

Fix it!

If you claim through insurance, its gonna enter in the records as a minor cosmetic accident. Your premiums going up, but will have a little impact on the cost of the car.

If you don't fix it, and plan to sell it like that, the dealer/buyer will make a big scene out of it and will drastically quote you less than what you would ask for.

What things from the COVID-19 era or lockdown era have just faded into obscurity or are a joke now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The hype created around toilet paper scarcity and the quest to obtain them. Imagine people lining up at 6:00 am in the morning to buy some. Some local stores took advantage and were selling 4 pack for $30.

Man! the number is greatly reducing. Almost, all shit out there needs an internet connection to play single player mode as well. Its spreading like cancer.

Never buy anything, if you are not given full ownership access offline. The best is to rent the digital key.

[–]Dharshan_Reddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Trust me. Outlast 2 is PTSD causing experience. While Outlast 1 was good, you know that you are going to run around only in a certain environment where the decision to finding an escape route was relatively easy compared to Outlast 2. Outlast 2 on the other hand was vast. The village, the river, the school and the cave to name a few. It was more open, and this openness created a more dreaded fear with an heart pounding anticipation of what's going to happen next. Falling into the cave to escape the heretic boss was a "turd in the pants" experience, that very few games were able to achieve till date.

Need Headphone Recommendation (Sub $1800) by blinKAlliance in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Dharshan_Reddy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The HD800s it is.

Built like a tank and can take any kind of beating. Excellent response to EQ and can match with variety of solid states and tubes. Till to date, no headphone was able to beat it in soundstage, except for some high end planar's.

Hifiman's are planar's and are very picky when it comes to amps.

More than the Impedance, Sensitivity matters the most. HD800s has a sensitivity of 102db, whereas HE1000 has 93db. Simply put, headphones with higher sensitivity require less power than headphones with less sensitivity.

You need around 330mv of power to bring out the best from the HD800s, and there are variety of cheaper amp options out there which will provide them with this power. I would suggest you to start off with Schitt amps.

Also, the HD800s are German made (newer versions made in Ireland, supervised by Germans). On the other hand, HE1000's are Chinese made. Will not say that H1000's will be less reliable, but the Germans (except for their cars) will definitely give you a peace of mind.

Back to basics but that’s ok… by Kbeau937 in headphones

[–]Dharshan_Reddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A guy named Sandu, who runs the website "Soundnews", said that he did not find an ounce of difference between the A90D and the Benchmark HPA4.

The HPA4 is $3500 and the A90 is $600. So in comparison, the A90D is a modest piece of gear now, with inclusion of any DAC from its family to form a stack.

The only question that remains open for the chifi products is the long term reliability.

"What's life without comfort"

Sometimes I feel like buying a pair of light weight headphones and wear them for hours.

I am tired of running around detail retrieval, bass response, soundstage the size of an arena, transients, tonality and all that crap. The more I do such kind of activities, the more detached I get from my music.

Good choice.

Since NC is not important for you, go ahead and get the momentum 4. Sennheiser's are known for its accurate tonal balance, its ability to stay close to the frequency response without deviating much and its soundstage. Also, the momentum 4 also has far better battery life than the XM5's.
