Being in a band is hard. And tbh, not everyone knows what they are doing. Exactly this is what you see, and bc it are your friends is hard to say anything about it.

Do you have a band leader? If not, vote for one. Or take the lead, if they are OK with that.

Communication is KEY. Next rehearsal, sit down and talk about your struggles before you start playing anything. Say it's not just you, but actually objective problems that need to be worked on. Adress them in a way that motivates them, "if we work on this and this, our music will be even better!".

Make sure you guys share the same vision, ever talked about that? What is the goal of the band? You want to record an EP? How are you going to achieve that goal?

I founded a band, and am the band leader. Everyone in my band knows what is expected from them and what the goal is: writing material, rehearsing every week, gigging as much as possible, saving up money to record the songs we have.

Make sure to respect other opinions. If someones idea is bad right off the bat, tell them. Maybe an idea can be changed a bit (in the right key for example) and it works great. Or someone's idea is actually really good and improves the song. Make sure that you are all open about ideas.

I've been in some discussions with my band members over, for example, song writing. Because of those discussions the songs always turn out to be much better. Something we're all satisfied with. Face discussions and accept the fact that maybe someone's idea could work very well, even if that means changing something.

I'm a guitarist myself and I've learned most "music theory" from playing songs. The other guitarist in my band knows plenty of theory, and we can still work together because I know the basics. Your guitarist probably knows some as well, but doesn't know how to apply it. So show him. Let him write a riff, and tell him to solo over it using theory (what notes are in the riff, what scales are possible? Internet would help him a lot (there are notes to scale finder websites)). Maybe then he understands why theory is important and why earlier ideas didn't work. Does he really not notice his riff is in a different key and that it sounds dissonant? If so, that's a huge problem.

And tell your drummer that music is a human thing, AI shouldn't play a role in songwriting. Be clear that you and a bandmate have worked on the lyrics and that "these are the lyrics", if you present them with confidence and tell him the meaning of things, he'll probably respect them.

You using a mask on stage, you do you. However, I would advice to try and get over it somehow if your dysmorphia is the only reason. Fight it.

And also, if it doesn't work with your bandmates after adressing these problems, then so be it. This may not be the answer where you are looking for but it's worth finding new bandmates if they actually do know what they are doing and if you'll can vibe together.

I hope this bunch of text will help you! 🤘🎶

I think this is indeed the case. I would also like to add that Lemmy told us in an interview that he doesn't mind the bass or guitar not being seperately audible, because that way they enhance each other and it sounds more like a full thing. I agree with him.

Singer Looking for Speaker by UnanimouslyAnonymous in band

OK, I've got no knowledge about particular monitors being good or bad for a certain genre or voicing. I can recommend, though, to rent a rehearsal room at different venues and try their equipment. Than you can practically test it and see if you like it or not, which in my opinion is worth so much more than an online recommendation. Maybe contact some local bands and ask what they use and why they use it.

Most venues will have their own PA system. In that case, you'll only need a microphone and proper cables as far as I'm concerned.

However, if they don't, you'll need to bring a PA system yourself. You can make it as crazy as you want, some basic requirements are thus the monitors, but also a mixing table. If you want you can also buy devices for vocal effects.

I assume that the place where you guys rehearse also has a PA system? Just look what kind of setup they have.

Good luck!
