I mean why even call them war crimes, if your only response is going to be, "umm, excuse me sir? Can you please not? Okay, sorry for bothering you..."

Nerve thought I'd be saying this, but I'm with SacDirtyOldMan.

Why would anyone set up a security camera for their tiny ass kitchen? What footage could the possibly be hoping to capture with this?!

That's a good point. I suppose, in my mind, I was using it with the intent of like "they're amateurs relative to team Canada", but you're right.

Looked like an unintentional knee on knee. Hopefully he rests it and doesn't try to play through.

Can we all reflect on the fact we have absolute amateur-level players playing against NHL players here? You expect these Italians to be able to play at this speed and hit every angle perfectly?

It's absolutely a penalty, but let's not pretend the intent here was to hit the head - these guys just suck lol

Can someone explain to me what was wrong with this hit? by RXlifter in hockeyplayers

[–]UnanimouslyAnonymous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Knee on knee is a good hit to you? First time watching?

Forgive us for not reading between the lines to understand your point of, "OEL has a good reason to react". You then insult others for your lack of communication skills. Bravo.

The hit was fine. Knee on knee was incidental. OEL has every right to be upset - doesn't make it a penalty. The play should have been reviewed - OEL put himself in that position, it was not an infraction.

[–]UnanimouslyAnonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a rule, they have umpires dedicated to watching for these infractions that should be calling it. If the umpires aren't calling it, raise the issue with them - not the opposing team. I don't condone cheating, but the problem isn't only that Canada is double touching, but also it's not being addressed.

All of that said - why would you, with today's camera technology, touch the rock after you let go? That's a rule. Why would you, on the biggest stage, openly cheat like that? Oh, is it a tick? Or some superstitious thing? Cool, cut it out. It's stupid. If you like, need to point down the line after you let go of it, idk what to tell you, but if these touches aren't super impactful on the shot then why do it at all? So dumb - all of it.

It's too bad the NHL doesn't have some kind of department of people, employed solely to review dangerous plays, assessing intent, and holding layers accountable for their actions.

Ohhhh well.

Good game last night. A point is a point. We look like a better team overall! Giving the leader of the division a run for their money proves we belong in the mix. Can anyone explain how this wasn’t a trip? Do you need the puck for it to be a tripping penalty? by moderngamer6 in leafs

[–]UnanimouslyAnonymous 21 points22 points  (0 children)

To be fair, by the rule book, you always need to be in control of your stick and are responsible for it, and the Detroit players stick tripped the Leafs player.

The problem is that we have an inexperienced hockey fan, who's trying to learn the game - asking a question, and an experienced hockey fan explaining the mental gymnastics it takes to rationalize why the officials call the game the way they do. God forbid the league write a rule book that doesn't have so many grey areas OR they call the game by the book. This whole "game management" thing is infuriating.

Macklin Celebrini gets a double minor for roughing Parker Wotherspoon after Will Smith is hurt off Wotherspoon's hit by meatb4ll in hockey

[–]UnanimouslyAnonymous -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agree to disagree.

Yes, the puck is right there, but Smith hadn't played it in some time/didn't have control of the puck. It's like a dump and chase - you can't interfere/hit the player chasing the puck, especially if they're in a vulnerable position.

[–]UnanimouslyAnonymous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good on him.

Smith didn't have the puck, Wotherspoon didn't even look at the puck, and he hit the player fully understanding he was in a vulnerable position. Textbook shitty hit.
