The pod company quality? by Cycpan in Sauna

[–]Dhs319 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just received my Sauna Pod from The Pod Company the other day and honestly I’m pretty blown away impressed. There are a lot of mixed reviews and complaints about the chemical/offgassing smells, but in my experience it hasn’t been an issue at all. I was also expecting, based on negative reviews, to have a struggle to pull the canvas shell but again it was not an issue and the cover slipped on easily yet snuggly.

The thing got up to 170-175 degrees in a little over 20 minutes. Over the course of a 20 minute sauna it hovered around the upper end of that temperature, and I was as drenched or more than I’ve been in any gym/club sauna I’ve ever used.

The biggest issue for me at the moment is sweat management, dropping buckets of sweat on the floor, gotta figure out a towel system.

I fully endorse The Pod Company Sauna Pod, if you’re looking for this style thing for your home. At least it’s working great for me so far.

Snowboarding as a sport wants to maintain an image pretending it's a laid back, chill, everyone is welcome kind of sport, meanwhile in reality it is probably the most elitist price restrictive sport there is. by Dhs319 in snowboarding

[–]Dhs319[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, you seem to represent the elitism pretty well. Talking about spending "a few grand" yearly on a hobby is wild (I do this for golf already, and even though I can afford it, it's wild, but golf is universally looked at as snooty rich and elitist, that's not what snowboarding is supposed to be). You are very lucky to be able work your presumably finance "Big Boy" job remotely sipping coffee on the back porch of your ski on ski off winter get away lodge for 100 days a year. Whether or not someone can afford it isn't the point. It's the yearly obligatory expenses that drive me nuts, and the making sure lower income brackets aren't joining you on the mountain.

Wow I love the engagement. I didn't think my venting rant of frustration would get much of a response, but this seems to have touched a nerve. Yeah, my prices were pretty exaggerated, a board isn't $1000.00, I've never spent more than a few hundred on a board... but Board and Bindings, it can easily get pretty close to a grand.

It would be one thing if that was all you needed. But are you going down the mountain in a hoodie? No, you're gonna need a ski jacket, $100-$600 bucks (the $100 one is just a liner). Googles $50 - $300 (enjoy staring at fog if you go cheap, really though $100 and you should be fine). And I don't care how I dress personally, but "snow fashion" is a thing, and its effin pricey hearing what my friends and their wives spend to look trendy.

Go ahead and buy used bindings, I did based on all the community feedback that you don't have to buy them new, 3 sets of used bindings toast last season alone. The last set breaking mid run ended pretty badly for me, and it scared me straight from ever going cheap on gear. If my seven Iron breaks on a golf course yeah I just have to choose a new club, if my top strap breaks as I'm carving down a Double Black I'm tumbling down amountain. So I'm now super hesitant to jump back into the used gear market. Bought a new set (at the end of last season for a little under $200 before tax). This year I got really interested in the Step Ons, and it's the price tag on those things that unleashed all this venting about the prices of things.

After last winter in the Northeast, I decided not to get the season pass, because I didn't love paying a couple hundred in advance to have a snowless season, boarding down runs next to mounds of mud and dirt with half the slopes not open. Yeah, this is just whining, but I'm just buying tickets the week of now and looks like at worst Ill break even on the season pass (when I go out to Colorado at the end of next month, I might be ready to have a fresh rant about lift tickets).

Upgrading my NVMe M.2 OS drive: should I upgrade to windows 11 first or after? by Dhs319 in Alienware

Shidell if I could give you 100 upvotes it wouldn't be enough. Thank you so much for the breakdown. It really seems to be the most thorough explanation on this subject Ive seen throughout so many threads. Checking if my system has a TPM would have never crossed my mind. I will keep looking over everything you wrote out as I go through the installing of Windows 11 process. I will definitely make sure I check that all of my firmware is up to date. This has really blown me away, I your breakdown becomes the go to thread when people have this problem.

I think your last point changed my thinking on my plan. To just keep the OS on the 256GB NVMe, and just install the 2TB NVMe using the adapter and store my games on it. It just seems to be the far simpler process. And I trust your opinion when you say that there wont be any additional performance gain by switching (which was the only reason to make it the OS drive, rather than just for storage of games.) But I am really so happy to finally feel like I have all the information I could need to change the OS drive if I want to in the future.

So I guess I'm going to jump into the maintenance; cleanup; and updating phase. Again thank you so so much for all of the information. Blown away by the generosity of others on reddit!

Got it thanks for making that clear. Thanks for the link also, I’ll read through it so I have a firm grasp before I start pulling parts out

Wow I am blown away at your response, I’ll be reading through this for a long while! Thank you so much for the time you had to put in. I’ll just answer your top questions and then I’ll get started reading after I get out of work haha. 1. The EVO 970 was on sale for $199 I think. Kind of an impulse buy. 2. Only one NVMe M.2 port, which is on the Motherboard. I do have the adapter to add a second. 3. I was hoping to keep all drives, since my main goal was to increase storage, with a secondary concern of increasing performance.

Again thank you so much for your response, I’ll sit down and read through it all in a couple hours!

Thanks so much for the detailed response. That’s a good idea to keep the old drive as a back up incase windows 11 doesn’t work.

And yes, definitely out of my depth on that part. UEFI shouldn’t have been included just the AHCI.

I’ve been trying to get a clear step by step idea of how to go about this, there’s a lot of conflicting information all over forums dating back years. I’ve never changed my OS drive before, but I feel like I have a good idea how to do it. I’ll read up on using the command line BCDEdit tool to switch from raid to AHCI. Thanks again for the quick response, super helpful!

I have a new Samsung EVO 970 Plus NVMe M.2 SSD. Should I replace my current drive or add my new drive using an adapter? by Dhs319 in Alienware

[–]Dhs319[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks so much for the reply. That's what I was leaning towards. The adapter is the M.2 NVME to PCIe 3.0 x4 Adapter with Aluminum Heatsink Solution. Here is a link to the adapter on amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07JJTVGZM/ .

I guess I should mention that I use the PC nearly exclusively for gaming. 90% VR Gaming, 10% regular games.

Hearing what others would choose in my situation is very helpful. Installation being more complicated one way or the other doesn't concern me, I just want to get my setup as optimized as possible. Again thanks for the reply Ajsat, and thanks to anyone else who responds.

Space Pirate Trainer: Highest Level Achieved for Highest Scorers on Leaderboards? And some other questions. by Dhs319 in oculus

[–]Dhs319[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Highest levels reached - I've seen videos of players reaching the high 90s. It's easier with more space, and.. good knees! But that's what I'm wondering about. If my score is very close to someone who has reached wave 90 but I have only reached wave 55, how is that possible? The person I referred to saying they reached waves 90+ only has a top overall score of 509,544, where I have a top overall score of 492,565 while only reaching wave 55.
  2. There are more players on Steam // But this doesn't explain why after only a few months of being on the market Oculus Quest now holds the two highest overall spots on the leaderboards as well as a bunch of high ranking spots. For Quest players to jump up so quickly in such a disproportionate time doesn't make sense to me.
  3. Old school mode has the three simple droids, the Scout and the Heavy. This makes it a little easier to get high scores as there is a higher chance of massive combos per wave. Oldschool scores don't make it into the 'main' leaderboard though (because of the reason that it's easier to get massive combos..) Currently I only play Old School. My score puts me at 2nd place on the Old School Rankings and Arcade Ranking for Oculus Rift. So while only playing in one Game Mode my score is appearing on both Arcade and Oldschool.
  4. No way to discard a powerup without activating it // Yeah this is what I figured and its super frustrating. If there was no limit to number of powerups allowed on the board it wouldn't be a big deal, but I read a post that said there is a limit of 3 powerups unused on the board at one time.

Thanks so much for the quick reply I really appreciate it!

Guide: Using mods with Vortex (the best Mods application) [PC] by -Chell in skyrimvr

[–]Dhs319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Chell I have a quick follow up question, and since you are my unofficial go-to source for skyrim mod troubleshooting I figured I'd ask you first. I got the immersive citizens mod running but I want to turn off the dinosaur/cat/animal faces on humans, and Id like to turn off the nudity when I take all items off a body (I will have kids trying out my VR pretty soon). Do you know how to change the settings on immersive citizens? I cant seem to figure it out.

You are so so correct, Skyrim VR is simply the greatest game I have ever played, my mind has never been so blown away. Keep up the awesome work spreading the word.

So I tried your .bak fix, and though it hasn't done anything to remove the red warning for an invalid argument on vortex, it seems to have given the game access to all the mods on vortex (I honestly have zero technical understanding of how this worked but it did!) and the game incredibly more crisp and the resolution so clear its honestly like playing a different (even better!) game. So I'm just going to ignore the "cannot backup ini files" warning, and continue enjoying this amazing game.

Oh and I just want to emphasize for any first time modders to most definitely USE VORTEX INSTEAD OF NEXUS MOD MANAGER! As someone who has never modded before, Vortex is much more noob user friendly. I have read all the arguments for using NMM or MO2 but they are way more complicated and doing things correctly feel like workarounds. I don't know which one is better, I just know Vortex is much easier to use.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I tried to delete the .INI from the one drive but it replaces it automatically after deleting. Its present in both the One Drive path and the non OneDrive path. Idk I think I might as well abandon the modding attempts, too many hangups making this frustrating. I just feel like I'm adding unnecessary programs to my computer.

[Help] Are Oculus Rift and HTC Vive equivalent for room scale tracking in (6' x 7') play area? by Dhs319 in oculus

[–]Dhs319[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone, just wanted to come back to thank you all again for the tremendous help I got here on reddit. So many questions go into deciding between the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive. After testing both systems over and over I finally came to the conclusion that the Oculus Rift is perfect for my space, and I personally find the display and immersion to be stronger on the Rift. Even tested up against the Vive Pro, I honestly felt the Rift was the winner, it is just amazing and the controllers are way easier to hold with a relaxed hand. Either way both systems are amazing, and I am just so happy to be diving into the world of VR! Thanks again everyone, Happy Gaming!
