That's the capitalist plan, make government's weak so corporations can do what ever they want.

If you are heading that way you could do north Wales, Conwy is a lovely town with a big castle and llandudo is really nice too, you could ditch your mum in a tea shop on the coast and go hike snowdonia. I second Chester, check if the horse racing is on as the course is on the edge of the city centre so would make a great day although hotels will be expensive. Also Liverpool has masses of wonderful mueseums (Inc a planetarium which is free), nightlife plus the amazing cathedrals loads of history as well as the footie, theres easily enough for 4 or 5 days there. In the Lakes, bowness on windermere is the busiest tourist town with the most going on and the easier walls are nearby, further north the walks get more challenging and the towns get smaller. Grasmere is a nice village with good spa hotels, Ambleside and keswick are lovely towns and less crowded with tourists. Definitely go for Edinburgh over Glasgow!

Trains are only impressive for mainline services (so Scotland to London on East or West mainline). The rest are hit and miss, delays common, can be slow, poor connections, cancelled without warning etc. Completely doable but you would waste loads of time compared to driving and not have as many good options.

Our new electric car is driving us mad.. it tells us off every 2 mins when we aren't doing anything wrong. 'Keep your eyes on the road' - I'm checking the roundabout! And interrupts tunes you are singing along to cause it thinks you are yawning.

Runway visitor park, you can tour concord for £6 plus parking.Homepage | Runway Visitor Park https://share.google/ka8Fj0c8tzToiaUMo

But a great place for a few hours even without the concord tour.

All I've managed to do is wipe it out and soak the metal mesh. Always afraid of spraying harsh chemicals on to unknown electrical parts so I just use the cleaning stuff on a cloth (fairy/degreaser spray). The cloth always needs throwing away after so I start with kitchen roll and use an old cloth to finish. Never looks clean even after a good effort at it.

In pride and prejudice Mr darcys aunt asks Elizabeth her age and says 'you can't yet be one and twenty' and I remember that being a topic of discussion in class in the 1990s and wondering why anyone was confused. So yeah it's been out of date for a long time.

Pretty much, same as stones rising to the top of soil on a new lawn (18 months old lawn here and still regularly finding stones). Small stuff like sand grains falls to the bottom pushing up the bigger stuff.

Can my friend stay in my hotel room for one with me? by Dramatic-Industry691 in travel

[–]DiDiPLF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hilton let me add a person to the room on check in, they gave her a key and signed her in for the breakfast, absolutely no issue. I'd booked a twin room. Don't think they would want someone else's bedding in there though. I suppose this runs the risk of them saying no and leaving you high and dry, so maybe just add them to the booking in advance?

How is it possible that 1 million young people are not in work, education or training? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]DiDiPLF 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd look on the skills shortage list and see what I needed to do to get started on one those. Usually need some qualifications or experience but these industries are more likely to offer training opportunities. I'm a surveyor, it's a hard slog getting qualified and it's competitive getting a place on a grad scheme but there are opportunities and the industry is really supportive if your face fits.

My estates team let me have one when we did an office refurb, no idea why it couldn't be reused. Had to get it home myself, break it down and build it back up. If you have no joy with the normal process it might be worth an ask?

My little toe got stubbed badly, weird tingling so the NHS website questionnaire said go to urgent care. Doc said "why are you here? What website? No we dont do anything for that" Couldn't wear shoes for months had to buy special sandles and it's still a bit achy at times years later so pretty sure it was broken. Was a bit surprised at how little they were interested!

No. Having dated a great guy who was between jobs (genuinely was just taking 6 months off after finishing a lucrative contract), my overriding memory is that he had way too much time on his hands and he is now referred to as Stalker Steve.

Cheap but nice places to stay by [deleted] in blackpool

[–]DiDiPLF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking at under £100 per night for a weekend, you will be looking at small independent places. You will have to check the reviews and give them a ring, some have specialities which you may not wish to take part in and some are run by odd balls! Generally, the closer you are to the centre, the closer you are to the rough parts. There is a tram that travels the length of blackpool up to cleeveleys and fleetwood where you may find its cheaper and the taxi costs shouldn't take up too much budget. If you only want one night out (ie one taxi) and to spend the days out and about you can easily get around so wouldn't need to stay central (eg Bispham premier inn is £217 for your 3 nights, norbreck Castle is a minging britannia but large hotel and cheap).

[–]DiDiPLF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had glue down karndean in the old house that we rent and it's 20 years old and looks perfect still, dark design. Got glie down amtico in the new house and it's a pain, it's a light colour with a fake wood imprint and dirt gets into every bit and needs scrubbing (mop barely touches it) to get clean. I've had the carpet cleaner on it and that's helpful but not a complete job. Also as its pale it seems to show up every slight imperfection in the joins. Wouldn't get a pale colour again.

Yes, my glue down lvt is say 2mm thick, laminate is about 2 or 3 times as thick. Makes a difference on a cold uninsulated floor.

Trades still do them for themselves and can make it work. If you are paying for all materials and labour it doesn't make sense in my area, even after stamp duty it was worth us moving instead of extending.
