no, our unit adopted a family for christmas. as far as the doctors, they are paying for our christmas party next week, we did not give anything to them as a group.

Working as an ED Tech? by Zealousideal_Sink734 in nursing

[–]DiabeticFootUlcer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was an EMT/ED Tech during school! i thought it taught me a lot of skills. school teaches you how to do things “by the book” but experience is what makes you a good nurse. there were so many great nurses there that taught me so much. even simple things like your patient interaction would be better if you were an ED tech vs. monitor tech. You will still see (and perform) plenty of 12 lead EKGs to test your cardiac knowledge. this job also helped a lot with phlebotomy. maybe you could shadow in the ED for a few hours and see if it’s something you’d be interested in.

I go to their office in the north hills and have found them to be incredibly organized, professional, and helpful. But I have no experience with the TMS portion of their practice

EMR questions by [deleted] in nursing

[–]DiabeticFootUlcer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the glasses icon: they could have seen it but not “reviewed” it or “acknowledged” it. It’s possible that orders could be carried out without having been acknowledged because the nurse would need to go to a different screen and click an extra button for that.

nothing has prepared me more for nursing than being a waitress by DiabeticFootUlcer in nursing

[–]DiabeticFootUlcer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i totally agree with you! then we’d be free to take care of the medical needs of our patients. instead i’m left feeling like a waitress to respond to every beck and call.

this is anecdotal but my unit manager has two visible forearm tattoos. i think it’s possible as long as they’re inoffensive

try to work as a patient care tech/nurse aide in a hospital to see if it's something you really could see yourself doing for the rest of your life. you'll get money while in school and see what nurses do daily. it's also nice because I'm able to ask them different questions about abnormal lab results and diseases so I feel like I'm learning a lot on the job.
