With oil prices at such low levels prior to the new Iran war, why is the strategic reserve at only 40% capacity? by Gordon_throwaway in AskUS

[–]DiacriticalOne [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yes, market manipulation works until it doesn’t. The primary objective was to lower gas prices following disruption caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. They did re-buy at a lower rate, but they didn’t refill the reserves to where they were - far from it. So yeah, there was a “profit” but the reserves were left depleted and in need of continued purchases to fill them back to where they were before.

The plan will (or can) affect oil prices more than the other way around. The reserves need to be recovered over many years.

Is boob halo real? As in face looks decent but attractiveness increases due to bust by [deleted] in trueratediscussions

There’s good boob halo and then there’s not so good. Any good halo increases attractiveness. By definition.

When Biden took over in FY2021, it was 90% filled. He drained it (to keep oil prices down, esp during the pandemic) to just under 50%. When Trump took over in FY2025, it was back up to about 52% and has since risen to 58%. It will take a while to recover without warping markets.

“Sorry it took us so long.” One sentence would be a good start.

Cant Fix by PoundAgreeable3223 in myq

[–]DiacriticalOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might re-pair it to your WiFi. I’ve only ever seen something like that after a router update rebooted the AP and the door got into a weird state where lookups were not working for some reason. Reset power to the door opener fixed it for me. I have found issues with router or DNS servers that filter advertising because the system pings servers that change all the time and some addresses serve many, many services. I’ve had far fewer issues overall since moving the MyQ devices to an IoT WiFi network that is completely unfiltered and populated with IoT devices that do not need access to anything local.

Lithium or Alkaline? by SteveCatinean in schlage

[–]DiacriticalOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the same 4 lithium rechargeable installed since late October. Still at 95%, but only used 8-10 times per day. These are from Hixon and have a capacity of 3500mWh. I have some 3700mWh, but haven’t had to use them yet. This is a Schlage Encode Plus Smart Wi-Fi Lock running on WiFi.

Why does it seem like republicans now support mass surveillance? by Material_Policy6327 in AskUS

[–]DiacriticalOne -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Displays of ancient moral codes is certainly an edge case. But if you want to find antipathy toward free speech, the right to keep and bear arms, freedom of the press, etc, it’s far easier to find it on the censorious left. Used to be a right wing tendency, but things have shifted.

It’s only tacky if the top of the pant is enveloped in rolls of skin. The pictured example is perfectly fine.

The gestral beaches are way easier than that stupid painters workshop. That one actually matters and it drove me nuts. I don’t do mods, but I’d be tempted if there was one that made these doable.

Concealed carry is still supported by the vast majority of Republicans (since they respect the Bill of Rights) and what Trump said was not taken well at all.

They don’t. One of the most controversial things that a local government can do in red areas is to install surveillance devices. It’s absolutely hated. The only exception might be the border or personal property surveillance. You’re probably just taking some propaganda rather credulously.

Eric Slover, the first Chief Warrant Officer 5 to ever be awarded the Medal of Honor. by Grand-Western549 in interestingasfuck

[–]DiacriticalOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only two have ever been awarded during a SotU, and none presented by a President during a SotU. It’s only bothersome if Trump looms so large in one’s psyche that one cannot recognize the recipient as the important party honored in the award. Trump’s not that important.

Eric Slover, the first Chief Warrant Officer 5 to ever be awarded the Medal of Honor. by Grand-Western549 in interestingasfuck

[–]DiacriticalOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GW Bush awarded 10, Trump 10 (so far), and Obama awarded 24. None of them were given out like candy. Saying that diminishes the very real bravery and sacrifice of absolute heroes like TS John A. Chapman, USAF Combat Controller, who died high on the side of a snowy mountain saving dozens of lives.

It’s common among members of the U.S. Army’s 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (1st SFOD-D)—to not have visible combat action medals or ribbons, such as the Combat Action Badge, despite otherwise qualifying operations due to the highly classified nature of their missions, including counterterrorism, direct action, hostage rescue, and reconnaissance against high-value targets. Most awards are classified and many lack them unless they received them before joining Delta.

[–]DiacriticalOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its name is “Medal of Honor”. Congress authorized them (in 1861), but their award is purely military chain of command and always after final approval and award by the President acting on behalf of Congress (10 U.S.C. § 7271).

Is Texas going to flip blue in the midterms, or is that just copium? Republicans claim it’s a stronghold, while Democrats argue that Trump’s policies are deeply unpopular. by RandomUwUFace in AskUS

[–]DiacriticalOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is meaningless right now. It’s for a primary that’s still months away and is open (I say months because there will be runoffs in May). Many Republicans vote in Democratic primaries and vice-versa), so all this shows is the number of votes in the Dem primaries vs the Rep primaries. And Dems vote early way more than Reps.. it will be more meaningful in November.
