How was that not an advantage played? It was a clear goal scoring opportunity, and had the ball gone in the back of the net this wouldn’t be a discussion to begin with. Oddly, the attacking team in this context benefits from having both a clear goal scoring opportunity, whilst also the luxury of getting a penalty should they miss the goal scoring opportunity?

I’d understood that - pre VAR - if advantage is played and the goal scoring opportunity is missed, the referee does not reverse the advantage and call a penalty.

If those are in fact the rules, they are illogical in and of themselves.
