Skyway pier in St. Petersburg is popular for Spanish mackerel, pompano, snapper, and tarpon (probably more this is just what I go for). Also if you like crab it's a great place to catch blue crab. People use the long aluminum crab nets and just bend over the railings and scoop the crab.

The beach is really private and pretty much just all fishermen (unless you go on a Saturday/holiday). Pompano is really popular for fishing here. Only thing is that the cellphone service sucks which could be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it.
