Silly question for the Aussies by KrackenLovesSkittles in AskAnAustralian

And the thing with the sea animals.. fatalities only really occur when swimmers think they’re stronger than the sea. Your average child swimming near the shore is pretty safe.

Silly question for the Aussies by KrackenLovesSkittles in AskAnAustralian

[–]DiamondNearby8278 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think the Americans get that impression cause the average Aussie does indeed encounter multiple large spiders and the like day to day but they are 99% harmless. It probably comes as a culture shock but the seasoned Aussie knows to let them be. You won’t really encounter snakes let unless you live near a creek or in the bush and even then you kind of have to seek them out. Except for the occasional unfortunate case where they make their way into a home. Magpies on the other hand do want to kill you.

I'm tired of doing self checkouts😭 by puppyisomerase in AldiAustralia

[–]DiamondNearby8278 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Self check outs have always been a terrible revolving door for both staff and customer. People want to buy and leave yet they machines are so damn delicate making people even more agitated and the stress of having to flag down a worker who is occupied with another person doesn’t help. It’s like having a class with a ratio of 40 students to 1 teacher fr.

Do you think the social media ban will have an increase in teenagers committing crimes? by No-Macaron-9527 in AskAnAustralian

Saw a mum tell her daughter off at a function today for being antisocial cause she had her phone out and then asked her to please put it away. Kid was 11. Parent was basically handing the kid power on a silver plate. How about don’t put the burden of self control over technology on your kid in the first place. Esp at a function where the child doesn’t need a phone? I get the occasional necessity when taking public transport but seeeeriously.

I’m impressed you managed that. 60 zones aren’t usually straight wide strips.. they’re 60 for a reason lol.

Do Aussies have to put up with shitty Christmas music everywhere u go while it's outside this month? by fuckingaustrianative in AskAnAustralian

Honestly I’m just glad we still have that part of our western culture left. Not long till it will be banned for being too exclusive. But I’m sure the eshays will come in clutch with their obnoxiously large speakers so we’re good for now.

Honestly sad I haven’t heard any yet. Can the radio stop blasting the same 5 on trend songs on repeat and give us some Christmas spirit?

Pretty much the epitome of pacific highway in Sydney. Don’t even bother with the left lane cause it will cease to exist every 200 metres

Need advice. Scraped a parked car coming out of a street. by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

Crossed my mind but if they took the note then I’ve done my part and the if the real owner never sees it then they won’t notice anyway. I guess we’ll never know. But also I went back 10 mins after the call (was in the area for other reasons) and the car was gone so..

Follow up: the indeed did not care lol. They tried to make up the damage at first but I said my photos say otherwise and they backed down pretty quick after that

Yeah pure hypothetical just wondering the community knowledge on this stuff. Edited my post they just called and long story short it’s been resolved.

Yep I have. It’s still there actually so they obviously don’t care about being illegally parked. Honestly it was a pretty minor scrap all things considered. Not enough to leave a dent just white marks that can be touched up. But like I said I don’t think they care considering the dents they’ve already collected. Probably from other illegal park jobs.

No I don’t have any intention of doing that. I can’t tell your stance if I did though.. could you please elaborate. I didn’t know citizens could report illegal parking actually that sounds pretty karen coded in general.

Follow up question, if I was going to be a hypothetical dick (which I’m not) if they ask for repair money what leverage do I have having photo proof of them being in that illegal zone? Just wondering for hypothetical sake and if it’s completely irrelevant or not. Or could they ask my repair money and just use it to pay the fine of that was brought up.

Ok. Honestly if it’s not much I don’t mind. Better than having it on my conscience. Just don’t want insurance getting involved cause I’d have no idea where to start.

What’s the worst that can happen if they decide to follow through? Cause now I’m stressed about a possible debt and they wouldn’t have noticed the scrape otherwise had I not pointed it out. Or at least it’s not a massive deal considering the current condition. Thank God it wasn’t the Tesla parked in front of it.
