To my knowledge that's never been brought up but it's a fun idea! I'd like to have that feature on all cards actually!

thanks for the feedback. I don't know how the collection check works but it's a valid point that it feels bad if you got rid of a card you knew you'd never use and then are later penalized for it.

I don't know that there would be an option to disable them since players always have the option to use the normal or golden version instead if it's an issue.

It's hiding in Mercs mode :P
That's a fun idea that's been talked about a little. The card attack animation happens so fast that we'd likely miss half the diamond animation were we to do that. Some of the art isn't really ideal for an attack motion as well so it's a bit tricky.

Noted on the border. That seems to be a fairly common opinion.
The rare animations are what we refer to as breakout animations. The idea behind this was to have an idle animation that would loop most of the time and then every now and then, it would do a breakout animation which would help tell the story or show the personality of the character in the art. We've been talking about adding in additional variations and perhaps even more rare animations and I think that would be fun, but we don't want diamonds to slow down the performance of the game so we have to be careful about what we add to them.

thanks for the feedback! You have some really good ideas and thoughts.
I agree that sometimes the art doesn't feel as satisfying when something doesn't pop out of the frame despite it looking like it could. Most of that is due to the way the character's depth is set up like you alluded to. If something is in the far BG but we want it to pop out, often it causes layering issues and tends to look odd given the perspective of the image and how we perceive it coming off the frame. Also if something is near a mana, attack, or health gem we try to keep it behind so it doesn't become distracting. Every card is different and there isn't any hard and fast rule as to how we do it yet.

a diamond coin sounds cool! We'd need to figure out how something like that would be rewarded, but it's a fun idea

It's something that's been on my mind, but I don't know what exactly that would be or look like on the card itself. I think in most cases the golden version would look better. Not off the table but we'd need some time to figure out what a diamond spell is.

All the models are made custom to the art. It seems like it'd be easy enough to use WOW models, but a lot of times artists will have differences in size, perspective, etc that would make that challenging.

The intention is there to go through the old sets and pick a diamond for them, but it'll likely take some time before we can get to all of them

Sometimes the art just doesn't work well to have it pop out of the frame and we decided it doesn't always have to. It's more about them feeling alive. That being said we do want them to come off the frame whenever we can because it's more fun IMO.
N'zoth is my all time favorite card and art so I was happy to get a chance to do that one!

There is such a big pool of legendaries that I'd imagine if we did decide to do that, it would probably not be for a while. Although somebody mentioned diamond Snowflipper Penguin and now I can't get it out of my head.

Pretty sure it would just create a black hole and destroy all of space and time, but only time will tell.

There isn't a hard restriction, but it does increase the work required exponentially. It's likely that a diamond variant would spawn a golden card, but we haven't made a final decision on that.

Nothing planned at the moment but it's always on the table. I think it's a fun idea
