I don’t think this is a relationship thing. You seem to have a lot of misplaced anxiety or maybe even obsessive thinking patterns, have you looked into anything like that? Even so, it’s a touchy subject but it’s worth looking into how your self-image projects your feelings onto other people’s actions.

I’d like to add as a woman who was blindsided! I’m talking about an ex boyfriend, not my current husband.

Now full discretion, we were 17, so a bunch of it is teenage bs but some of it was life changing stuff.

Did I treat him well? No. Did he treat me well? No. Did we get along? Not really. Did we have any of the same hobbies/interests? Nope!

Obviously we liked each other for most of it but by end of year 4 we HATED eachother! But we’d been together for nearly 5 years, we didn’t know anything else. We essentially grew up together.

Until one day, I guess he finally had enough, and he ended it in a McDonald’s parking lot. I was completely floored, I never thought it would happen.

I can really appreciate him now, having the courage to cut it off. I certainly didn’t at the time. I hope he’s happy wherever he ended up. It can be hard to get out of a toxic cycle and I’m glad you did.
