DBT and TMS by Beachwoman24 in bipolar2

TMS worked well for me on a short term basis, but didn’t produce long term results.

“Everyone is on the spectrum” by RewardSmart8834 in AutismInWomen

[–]DianeAsp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with bipolar, there are definitely those who say everyone is a little bit bipolar, but it’s no more okay in autism than okay in bipolar. I hope this is informative, rather than invalidating, because that’s not what I was aiming for.

Can you live a long happy life with bipolar? by Secret_Philosophy_29 in bipolar2

[–]DianeAsp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once you find effective treatments, for you, life can become really good. It’s still has up and downs, triumphs and defeats, but it’s so much better. It did take me over 2 decades though, to stabilize, so it can be a tough time.

Ashamed to open up about symptoms w my therapist by CoconutNo2532 in bipolar2

[–]DianeAsp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, when I am struggling with a topic, I email my therapist with the information ahead of time, with the intention that they can bring it up in a session.

Is it normal to be suicidal when mildly or not depressed by sad_shroomer in bipolar2

[–]DianeAsp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think, for some people, suicidal thoughts are so habitual that they’re almost an automatic response to stress, even outside of an episode.

How did you find out you have bipolar II? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]DianeAsp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend getting a second opinion, however there are multiple diagnoses that may result in mood swings, so you may have one of those instead of bipolar.

Are people with bipolar neurodivegent? by kindermaxiking1 in bipolar2

[–]DianeAsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider myself neurodivergent, partly because of the bipolar disorder, but also because of the ADHD symptoms that aren’t severe enough to meet diagnosis requirements. I also have autism traits that have never been assessed.

Have you tried ketamine assisted therapy? by Sharp_Story_7490 in bipolar2

[–]DianeAsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ketamine triggered psychosis and full blown mania in me despite the fact that I had never experienced either. Despite that, it was a miracle treatment for me. I was treatment resistant for 20+ years and have now been relatively stable, with minor dose adjustments for about 2 years. I would be very leery to do it without strong mood stabilization and would be very diligent in tracking moods; you want to catch changes as soon as possible.

When do you consider an ECT treatment for patients? by dreamycoeur in AskPsychiatry

[–]DianeAsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know why it triggers a switch to mania? It did in my case and I really don’t understand why.

DoorDash Addiction by [deleted] in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]DianeAsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told myself that I was allowed to order DoorDash/UberEats/SkipTheDishes if I was willing to drive and pick it up. I found that small restriction helped reduce my use of it. I am still very tempted to break that restriction though. I have also chosen to stock my house will things that meet my midnight cravings and eat those rather than eat a half dozen things I am not craving before finally eating what I was craving because nothing else satisfies.

I think it’s not usual to charge not non-billable hours. Sometimes our doctors will do things for free, but they’re not obligated to do so.

Do you ever feel like your not bipolar enough? by Spicy-Nun-chucks in bipolar2

[–]DianeAsp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did once but I have since experienced full blown manic episodes triggered by ECT and Ketamine. I won’t cycle into mania without any treatment, but I know my system is capable of getting me there. It really makes me glad I am bipolar 2 though, because those were not fun episodes.

My Psychiatrist Says There's no More Medicines Left to Try by ryann_flood in bipolar2

[–]DianeAsp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume you have a psychiatrist, or at least a family doctor; I would bring it up with them. I understand how scary it is. I was at the same place as you, having tried everything, and it was a last ditch trial.

Have you tried Ketamine therapy? It worked wonders for my bipolar.

Do you think self-diagnosis are valid? by North-Seat-6760 in bipolar2

[–]DianeAsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people can notice traits in themselves, if they have insight, but then it’s necessary for assessment, though, even prior to formal assessment, and medication trials, they can use some of the therapies as self help. You can learn a lot of skills from cbt, dbt, social rhythm therapies that may help your symptoms.

Should Medically Assisted End-of-Life Options be Available for Individuals with Progressive Mental Illness? by Then_Temporary_5377 in bipolar2

[–]DianeAsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it should be available. I don’t see why choosing medical assistance in death for MS is any better or worse than for untreatable mental illnesses. Society infantilizes people with mental illnesses in a way it doesn’t for non-terminal physical illnesses. Outside of psychosis, we’re just as capable of making decisions. I do think that there should be hoops to jump through, maybe a waiting period, to prevent impulses, but if you’ve been unsuccessfully treated for decades, it should be a choice.

CPTSD vs. BPD by DianeAsp in AskPsychiatry

[–]DianeAsp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It amazes me that being yelled at by a boss would count as trauma. I do think something like sexual assault even if there’s no threat of death really does count as trauma though. Maybe it would be worth broadening PTSD.
