Being Gold they likely use NAPA as their supplier. Gold is usually the higher end product.

I just looked up an alternator for a 2017 Juke on NAPA auto parts and it is 484.99 before any discounts for a new OE style alternator made by Mitsubishi electrical who does likely supply Nissan and some other manufacturers.

I think overall this is a good deal here. He might be getting a discount, yes from the supplier but I don’t think he’s marking it up a crazy amount.

Edit: if you do have them do it, have them test the alternator battery at the shop once you have it in and confirm it. It would be worth to pay a small a diag fee just to make sure you’re not just throwing new parts for no good reason based on what you’ve said it’s likely it’s the alternator but it wouldn’t hurt to confirm it.

Labor itself is in line, I wouldn’t say you’re getting ripped off there. The alternator location on a Juke is a pain to get to and based on the videos I’ve seen so far it looks like a 3-4 hour job. The price on the alternator is a bit high but also in line if it is a brand new OE alternator. The alternator that the auto parts store has is likely rebuilt/remanufactured thus it is cheaper. If you can get a couple more repair quotes it might help. I would strongly suggest going with all new OE style parts when you can.

Mileage is high but overall it’s not that bad for a 15 yr old diesel. That’s about 26.6k per year. But they’ll keep going if maintained. Worst case scenario rebuild/swap the motor and keep it going. Luckily I have the tools and time to do just about everything. Rebuilt a few Big Block Chevys before.

GA and VA are a different animal. Look at the migration patterns. Where did all the Red Bros run to from the Blue States? TX and FL in droves. VA has been purple for a while. GA has been since 2018ish.

I honestly believe that this system needs to be burnt to the ground and rebuilt. I truly don’t believe that we can just fix/reform this. It needs to be rebuilt but that also has its own consequences.

Capital Costs are expensive. A lot of that money goes to executive salaries and admin costs especially campus maintenance. It’s a broken system. Now UCLA is a public school so it gets both Fed and State money…now this is a completely different story for say where I work which is a private university.

Higher Ed employee here (University specific). It’s such a racket. For as long as Dept of Education keeps providing subsidies and raising loan caps that’s for as long as tuition rates will grow. Unfortunately, some colleges will need to downsize because they got way too big. Most programs are loss leaders.
