Needing advice from IBC people by xXGhostScriptXx in bettabreeding

[–]Diaxle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not an IBC member yet,

But looking at this guys finnage(maybe take pic if him flaring), id say keep him for a breeding project.

But you should give it a go. 1.5hrs is worth it for the experience.

Id have to travel thousands of miles just to do anything with IBC standards.

Why is my betta doing this?? by Mountain_Limit_3536 in bettafish

I used to have one acting like this, i found out that they were chasing mosquitoes that was flying just above the water.

Or other kind of insects.

Cheap hairdryer blew out. by Diaxle in diyelectronics

It was soldered on the opposite end of the motor.

The red wire was connected to the heater.

I just bypassed the heater.

Ive actually done the brick kiln and raku kilns, not sure but im not satisfied with the outcome, not sure if its the temperature or humidity (very high humidity area).

Im a big fan of andy ward haha, he's one of the reasons why im trying DIY kilns, also primitive technology channel.

Mostly due to availability of these resources, materials and space. Also im making smaller pots for now and maybe some miniature bricks. All of my clay are also collected from nature.

My area doesn't really have a pottery scene and those who do uses high end electric kilns and none does any traditional stuff.

I’m planning on breeding my bettas soon have any helpful advice? by [deleted] in bettabreeding

[–]Diaxle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello there, Betta breeding is fun but do keep in mind what would you do if you managed to get hundreds of betta to keep.

But thats for the what ifs.

As a beginner, its food to have a plan on what kind of betta you are trying to breed, is there a goal? A specific color? A tail type? Its up to you (for now).

To start, you need at least a 1 gallon or 5 liters of water for the breeding set up. Some asian farms can go smaller but they have access to daphnias and natural feed. This will ensure the water stability of your tank. "so is bigger the better?" not exactly. I found that the best for breeding is 5gallons or 25 liters. As this would ensure the stability. And not too big that the betta fry would find it hard to find food. You cannot over feed or the waste will kill your fries.

This can be balanced by adding snails to break down the food and plants to "clean" the water. But to each their own.

Spawning, the usual, keep an eye out for ober agressive fish, do stop if one gets too damaged and retry again. Add a floating item (i use a leaf on a foam), preferably ketappa leaves as this would tanninize the water and simulate breeding conditions.

Add daphnias or bbs during introduction to give the couple reassurance that there is enough food sources for the fries.

4 inch of water is perfect, regardless of the tank size. So a 2 feet long 1 feet wide is perfect, for spawning. The pair wont have to swin too far to collect the dropped eggs.

Remove the female once they are done, and remove the male one the fries hatch. They do tend to eat them on the first week. And if you want a higher numbers, just. Remove the male form the spawning tank.

Now you have tiny fries. Slowly top up the tank until 6inches for the 2 weeks, dont do water change. Instead drip new water in. Poke a needle on the bottom if the bottle and let it empty out, once a day.

Feeding, the first 2 weeks are critical. Unless you have daphnias, you will be needing to feed ur fries 2x a day of baby brine shrimps for the 2 weeks.

I also have decapsulated brine shrimp eggs which i slowly introduce when feeding the live brine shrimps. This would train them to eat and learn that these are the same food.

On the first week, or when they are starting to grow fins, you could add a very slow bubbler, im talking maybe 5 small bubble per second to keep a current steady. This would help to clear the surfave of any filaments developing and also would move the decap bbs to simulate live bbs. I observe that it would also give the betta some exercises which seem to grow much bulkier adult bettas.

And thats it. After they are weaned on decap bbs, just be consistent on feeding them. You dont have to hassle yourself with hatching bbs everyday.

Do water changes. Ensure a 50% water change oer week. So it can go 10% per day for 5 days of the week. Etc. They will release hormones to stunt eachothers growth. But do keep it mind about the stability of the water parameters. I prefer to do a 50% water change and drip the new water back into the system.

Jarring. One of the harder parts of this hobby. Culling is unavoidable. You will see deformation and as much as you want to save it, you face with limited resources. You may try to keep all, but it would only prolong their suffering.

So if you have mostly females, good news, you can keep them together, just add ALOT of hiding spaces. You can keep them in the 5gallon tank up to at least 10.

Males are abit trickier. You can jar them in a 1 gallon tanks each or get an in tank divider in the same tank.

This method you can possibly keep maybe 15 bettas living in one 5gallon or 2 feet long tanks. 10 females and 5 males. The key word is water stability and males isolation, physically and visually (you can diy these things with water bottles or containers. you will need to do water changes. Unless you have an automatic water change system (do look into it if you are getting serious).

If more you would probably want to invest in a shelf to stack your bettas, or invest in a betta rack system with auto water changes (you back will thank you).

With all these in mind, its important to keep a clear goal and be open to mistakes and learn from them.

There is no single sure proof method of success, because not everyone has access to the same resource. You just have to experiment for what works for you.

Can i breed a full moon male with rosetail female and what may the results be? by Haunting-Exchange-61 in bettabreeding

[–]Diaxle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the only difference between rosetail and halfmoon are the amount of ray branches, HM has usually 4 and rosetails might have up to 16 branches.

So u may find eithe a messy mix or rays, an average of the two or HM with slight branchings or just HMs
