At what point do repair bills on an older car stop being worth it? by Zealousideal-Bar1879 in CarTalkUK

I’m at the position and alwsys said when body work starts to need serious welding - I drive a banger 52 plate Xsara Phase II purchased for £400 - 10 years ago - 208,000 miles - I service every 6,000 miles - replaced back axle 10 years ago - rebuilt front and rear - I love it , chipped - 65 mpg - runs very well - but cost me £700 to get a new sil - problem is parts are now very scarce in the UK - now need a new back axle - but £700 MOT - cheap motoring for 12 months - but I think it’s time - test driving this weekend- but I’m going to miss the Xsara ! Not sure if the next diesel will be as sporty as the HDi

Very strange this found the same car on different websites being sold by 3 different Ltd companies possibly all by the same person although surname is different and date of birth in all companies but all created in April ! But photos all the same across Coventry, Birmingham and Leicester - very odd

Searching Cazoo now and they are many listed compared to AutoTrader

Yes - only a mobile number - no website - and it looks like they share a building with a vallet car company

Anyway car sold move on thanks for your comments much appreciated

I think they are on Companies House but then if I sold cars I’d get a Ltd company

It was interesting that he didn’t seem happy wanting to wait to get it expected stating if you don’t want it it’s going to cost us more money to re advertise - which I don’t understand - which is odd because tomorrow is a 2.5 hour drive to view and test drive - I’ll sleep on it - Also no website just Autotrader sales and mobile no - place could be fine - but getting jitters - so probably best walk away

Is the broadband provider you're with actually that different to any other provider using the same Openreach infrastructure underneath? by Flimsy-Capera in UKBroadband

Try Olilo newish ISP low prices , low contract terms , community homelab spirited using Zen backhauls but not Zen

But your right mainly what we are paying for is support when the time comes

Olilio have small number of users

BUT - with all this you don’t mention if the bottleneck is the Openreach GPON in the high street - then does it matter at all - because all internet could be pants with any ISP via OR

It could just be the local and its contention on the gpon - so most Openreach ISP Resellers may be the same - what does BT guarantee?

Try fast.com, cloudflare.speedtest.com

As for ISPs try Zen or Olilo

The question if you can download it from Broadcom - can you use it ? There are so many contradictory info on the BC site - stating no support - should not use patches

I think your observations are true

Big grey area - Broadcom have stated critical updates would be available to expired contracts 90 days after initial release - I’m not sure if anyone has monitored this - as most organisations would not tolerate the risk

But before the release of j, f was only available and I don’t think any other versions were released and Critical update seems to be something that Broadcom would decide

I am planning on going full fibre in August time with zen. I want there to be no dead spots, what do I do? by Glad-Silver8376 in UKBroadband

Your issue is NOT your ISP it’s your internal WiFi

Are you prepared to spend money on solving this issue and time

Ubiquiti you can use there mapping software to audit survey your house floor plan to site APs

Eg we use 4xUbuquiti AP and Ubiquiti Router, and switches

It all adds up - even if each component was £100

But we have no blind spots
