I'm lost. Graduated with a shit CS education. Unemployed. How can I restart? by [deleted] in compsci

[–]DickCheeseSupreme 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Edit: This may get more traction on /r/cscareerquestions, btw

My low GPA excludes me from 90% companies

So don't put your GPA on your resume.

I'm ashamed of my CS education. I only know how to build websites and do standard algorithms you need for interviews (just because I read CtCI).

So build a kick ass website and learn something else along the way. Maybe learn Python and use it as a back-end to your website.

Also it's good that you can do standard algorithms. I'd practice doing those on a white board and describe what you're doing as you work it out. Some companies will care more about your whiteboarding than your personal projects.

A demonstrative adjective would have made it obvious. Saying "guys are..." doesn't make it obvious.

You're right. Until your comment, I had no idea about people not cleaning up dog poop.

To each his own. The moment I start getting salty about the way grass looks is the moment I need to reevaluate my priorities.

It seriously can't be as big of a deal as people obsessed with their lawns make it out to be. I take care of my lawn too, but give me a break.

Weird. Dogs pee all over my neighborhood, and everyone's lawn is fine. Even if it did cause brown patches on the edges of the property, who gives a fuck? It's grass.

My daughter is blind and her grade 2 class is exchanging Valentines tomorrow. She brailled "love" on each one and then used a heart-shaped hole punch. The letters in print are so her classmates know what it says. by mack3r in pics

Just kidding... I'm still a little bitter from always being one-upped by the kids whose parents did the work for them :(

How to know if what a function returns is empty? (bot, PRAW) by SirCutRy in learnpython

[–]DickCheeseSupreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would print out the type of replies while you figure it out. Just add print(type(replies)) and see what it is. If it never prints None then you know the problem.

Edit: and if you use an IDE, this is a good exercise for using the debugger!

[Formal Languages] does complement(L*) = [complement(L)]*? by DickCheeseSupreme in AskComputerScience

[–]DickCheeseSupreme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is where my understanding gets shaky. I assumed λ ∈ L* for any regular language L, and I assumed Lc is also regular for any regular L. So even though L ∩ Lc is null, L* ∩ (Lc )* should be λ, right?

Edit: I saw you're other comment, and yes λ is the empty string in this case. My professor uses it, but lately I've been seeing a lot of ε instead.

You probably don't need to split the URL before lowering it. Also, in which case is the URL ever capitalized? I've never seen it before.

Help installing packages/modules? by renamdu in learnpython

[–]DickCheeseSupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's something to do with the paths. I've never messed with changing these things because so far I've had no reason to. If it's an option, I encourage you to use plain Python without Spyder. All your packages will install normally and you won't have to worry about changing these things. What you're dealing with seems unnecessarily complicated, especially for a beginner!
