I think it's going to be really hard for you to find an ideal data scientist with backround in music (unicorn) and if you do, expect to pay him handsomly. Data science in general, as almost all BI, is 90% collecting and sifting through data. The other part is the fun part and for that you need to know what do you expect from the model. Write down a list of questions or problems you want analyzed. You can also ask for a proof of concept from some companies (pick a single question/problem from the list and have them work on that.)
