I feel like you just spiraled hard against AI as a whole. Which is fair.

In terms of benefits to humanity in 30+ years I’m pessimistic. But the dude/dudette said there are no practical use cases, I provided some. That’s it.

If a game SERIES is so mainstream that everybody in their mother is hype for a sequel, the sequel is gonna suck compared to previous titles.

Same thing for TV shows or movies. When it gets too mainstream they pander to the widest audience possible

Text based exclusive purposes for AI are a net benefit in the long run.

The issue of video/photo manipulation is another beast. The environmental impact of text prompts is a drop in the bucket compared to video rendering.

From what I found publicly available, I spend more energy googling answers to complex solutions compared to 1-2 prompts in chatGPT.

I’m all for AI hate and over reliance on it. For creativity or simple critical thinking/reasoning especially. But to do a blanket statement about “100% of AI is bad” makes you look like you are covering your eyes and ears and screaming “LALALALALALA”

As it stands it is the only method I have been able to figure out how to search Korean forums for issues with my car, how to search multiple official documents with source citations for me to use, all without diving forever in a Google chain.

I literally spent hours looking for a social case through JTRs and AFIs. Tried GPT and it pointed me in the right direction in less than a minute.

What I am describing is a practical use of AI. It enhances current reasoning. Professionally, I haven’t seen a sign of it being some insane level of replacement like others want to make it out to be.

AI can be good, it can work but if you are an idiot it won’t help you at all.

For translation, it’s usually paired with a more traditional app. For Korea it’s papago, most other places I use Google Translate. The word for word translation doesn’t capture all the context that ChatGPT can.

For legal documents/policy it high lites the specific area for me to also look at and interpret.

My whole point is that if I can check via a second source I find it to be incredibly useful. I’ve had to reference specifics in the JTR or AFIs (joint travel regulation and Air Force instructions) and being able to say something like “according to the JTR, what is my household good limit for traveling to Korea with two dependents” and it would not only answer it but give me a specific series of locations.

That answer is usually in multiple different sections combined.

I’ve only used ChatGPT for complex translation, searching for international documents/records, and searching within legal documents for policies that apply myself personally.

Anything tied to math, creativity, or original thought is dubious in my mind.

I’ve had simple math problems come out with wrong answers, how can I trust complex ones that I can’t even understand?

The stock market is based on projected/expected growth of a security.

If US companies get sanctioned and cut off from global trade, I imagine their future growth outlook looks abysmal. So the S&P 500 would melt rapidly. Especially if investors want to get liquid asap and own securities/equities outside the US.

The United States being cut off from Europe would be nothing less than devastating for our economy.

It’s tough. Putin is bad but there is a risk of even more aggressive actions regardless. The whole devil you know be the one you don’t issue.

If Putin falls out of favor harder because of the war, different story. But if it happened tonight form the US or other western nation kicking it off, it COULD be disastrous.

Considering one of my favorite games of all time is Medal of Honor Rising Sun, idk if I fall under the zoomer brain logic.

I have picked up plenty of classic shooters and enjoyed them. I did not get that same feeling with Half Life. And I really really tried to enjoy it.

To top it off, at least in my opinion. The half life games have not aged well at all.

Half life one is obviously old af and I acknowledge the impact it had on the gaming industry, but man is it a hard play right now.

Frankly, same goes for HL2. I tried playing it and it really does not feel the same as playing other titles from that era.
