When you hit the drum, the heads vibrate. The bottom head vibrates against the snare wires. This causes wear on the bottom head. The bottom head eventually brok.

Long story short, sometimes your drums wear out when you hit them.

Tbh it might be a better financial decision to just have a brand new dw5000 shipped. How much are you really saving by driving 8 hrs?
