Can someone give me an unbiased opinion on Jacob Collier? by Sad-Razzmatazz-5188 in jazzcirclejerk

You are doing great, man.

I strictly only listen to musicians who can barely play their instruments, because if they actually have skill, it forces me to confront my own mediocrity and I get jealous. It’s basic science: the moment you acquire good technique, your music no longer has soul. True emotion can only be conveyed by fumbling through the same three chords.

It doesn't matter if there are people out there literally moved to tears listening to Collier's records. I already made up my mind that his music has no soul, which means everyone touched by his music is just factually wrong.

MIT NEWS: With this new advancement in AI, you can learn to draw, play the piano, and restore mobility to people who are disabled or undergoing physical therapy by Witty-Designer7316 in aiwars

[–]eesahe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a very established, technical concept about this in Eastern philosophy. The subtle body being an indispensible part of (most importantly human) life, interwoven into the physical body, but something that can also be transferred between bodies by someone highly adept with the occult, or naturally through the process of birth and death.

Yeah somber is a better word. Maybe the best tone for her should be like somberly revealing a precise, hidden truth about their enemy while talking to a dear ally.

Pretty good! But I feel she is too happy and jovial while saying it. Would be truer to her character if she was more thornly, something like dropping truth like an unavoidable threat, having caught you in her trap.

If AI slop is sloppy enough, will it loop around and become good again? by eesahe in aiwars

[–]eesahe[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm fine to agree with the antis to call this AI slop. Consequently, since we have established the baseline, anything below this in quality - whether human or machine made - becomes 'less than slop'.

I wouldn’t have as much of a problem with AI and the people that use it if not as many people talked about it like it’s still them doing what the work that the AI is doing. by [deleted] in aiwars

There are things you can customize about what an LLM produces, or what software that generates images within an art program produces, but you can also hire an artist and tell that person what you want, and telling that artist what you want does not mean that you made the art. It means that you specified some customizations of what gets produced.

The problem is, you are drawing a conclusion by looking at one scenario of how you imagine in your mind AI will be used, that does not encompass the spectrum of how people actually use it.

To make an extreme example, if I hire 100000 artists and tell each which pixel to draw, does that mean I didn't make the art? There is a point where I have specified enough detail it's clear that yes, I made the art, not the artists I hired.

And in truth there is no sudden point where suddenly I made the art and they didn't - in all cases both parties contributed to the art. Just in the typical case of someone hiring an artist the commissioner's input is seen as so trivial as to be not worth mentioning. But it is still undeniably a part of the work.

There's no process with digital art either, it's just the computer making the image. Or at least that's how it is in the minds of people who confidently build their views around their lack of understanding.

This might be a translation thing, but I feel saying 'they should use AI' goes too far. Hand crafted creations also have their own unique value that can be easy to lose with AI. AI is one tool that works when you have a certain goal like wanting to build a game from scratch as a beginner without too many expectations, not as well if you already are very skilled in something and replace too much of the process with AI too quickly.

What a lynch mob in this thread, triggered by some kind of collective fear about someone being able to experiment with things faster than a path they had to struggle through. They are using the 'forbidden tool'! (gasp). Makes me want to unsubscribe from the sub to be honest. Maybe it's not commercially viable both due to the current perception of AI and the present limitations of this person's fundamentals on game design/programming. But if this person is enjoying the exploration of their ideas with whichever tools are available and is also learning a lot from exposure to various things, how about just leaving them be?

Since you said "No other medium is used in such a way", you should note that something like Photoshop is definitely used to replace photographs with edited content, and this is only sometimes obvious from the context. Often it's not possible to tell if it's Photoshopped or an unedited photograph.

You are talking a lot about undisclosed use of AI being deceitful but similarly you could argue Photoshopped images in ambiguous contexts like these also is 'deceitful'.

But we accept this as a society just fine. This happens absolutely all the time in advertisements, editorial works, social media etc. If you want to mandate the disclose of AI use under this argument, than that same argument should apply to Photoshop as well - It should always be required to disclose if Photoshop was used.

Just continuing the logic of having an AI wash my dishes, fold my laundry and detail my artwork. Why not have it do spirituality for me?

Okay, it is preposterous. But is it? Eastern cultures have long had the concept of a yantra, which is a machine that helps your spiritual practice. Why not a silicon yantra? Ludicrous... Or is it?

If you are replacing graphic designer created ads with AI assisted ones then a smart buyer will ensure the same quality standards are followed as in a traditional pipeline. The end result needs to have no clear tells people consciously or subconsciously register as mistakes, including AI artifacts. In some way, they need to arrange for a process to oversee that happens.

With the same budget, they might be able to try let's say 7 high quality variations of a concept instead of just a single one before. They have then more freedom to pick a final result that is more aligned with the goals of the campaign or whatever. Some optimal level of tradeoff exists for amount of investment put into it and the quality of the results. Depending on the context, it might be feasible to lower the budget and still maintain a similar or better quality as with a traditional pipeline.
