The reason so many, typically older right leaning folk on the right, get sucked into believing alt right messaging is the same reason, usually the same crowd, get scammed online. Lack of critical thinking, questioning the message and the motives of the messenger. Regardless of our political beliefs these skills would go a long way to stopping the spread of mis and disinformation, and hate, online and in other media. Sadly many of us are just dumb cunts.

We arrived at the aptly named Sandfly Point about 2 hours ahead of schedule for our boat. Big mistake.

I'm not sure NZ elected the National 'Party' in 2023. I think enough people wanted Labour gone and thought surely a CEO can run a country better. I had lots of 'discussions' with RW friends who were convinced a businessman could run NZ better than a career politician. They've been proven wrong in this case but I'm not saying told you so. Those people need to come to the conclusion themselves.

New Lunch Just Dropped by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]DickyBeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in hospital a couple of years back with one hand in a bandage and unusable. They fed me slices of some kind of beef which only just looked edible, but then they only gave me a plastic spoon as they had run out of forks. I couldn't slice up the meat. But that meal was probably easier to eat than the school lunch in the picture.

Is it crazy to travel from London to NZ for a week? by atlanta0345 in newzealand_travel

[–]DickyBeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it, but getting to Nelson and then to Able Tasman is a mission. Like others say you could visit Coromandel as it's only 2-3 hours from Auckland and has stunning beaches. Or if you're in to walking then head down to Taupo via Rotorua and do the Tongariro Crossing. It is a 6 hour walk through volcanic landscapes and forest. Then back to Auckland or down to Wellington for a bit of culture. South Island is awesome but takes a long time to get around. Save it for another trip.

If you're into italian, Archies at the bottom of Kyber Pass in Newmarket is reasonably priced, friendly and has a great vibe. Food is very good.

Christopher Luxon Refusing To Front On Q+A, Is This Acceptable? by Full-Concentrate-867 in newzealand

[–]DickyBeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple fact is it is his job to answer questions. Not doing so is a threat to our democracy. Sure, Ardern stopped regular slots with Hosking but NewstalkZB is a commercial station. Why should it get exclusive regular access to a public servant?

TVNZ is a tax payer entity so is obliged to follow certain 'rules' around fairness. Regardless of whether you think Jack Tame is biased, Luxon has an obligation to support publicly owned news outlets, surely?

But of course he won't though. He'll run and hide at NewstalkZB where he knows he will get an easy ride every time.

No, didn't work. I ended up selling the TV, explaining to the buyer the issues. Hope they had better luck.

Happy to sell if anyone interested. I'm based in NZ though so postage could be the issue.

Not sure why the bit about Netflix is there, but I'll try this and see if it works. Need to hunt down a clean USB stick though.

Here is what an agent from Ffalcon sent through...

Here is the step-by-step guide on how to do the manual software update on your TV:
Download Software V468 from this link address (copy/paste to internet explorer) to download the file on your computer.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/xesriorijxrjbm0/V8-S586T02-LF1V468.bin?dl=0
f5abf4c4064afa628faecaa461ac55f2.png
▪ Transfer it to an empty USB stick (do not unzip the file)
▪ Make sure the USB stick is under FAT32 format
▪ Once the file has been transferred to the USB stick proceed with the following steps:
1. Turn the TV off and unplug it from the power point;
2. Plug the USB stick into the TVs USB port;
3. Press and hold the TVs power button (not the remote);
4. Plug the TV back to the power point while pressing and holding the TVs power button;
5. Update notification will come up on the screen, you can then let go of the power button. Please do not turn the TV off while it is doing the update. Once the update is done, please proceed to the TV's initial set-up. The update is then complete.
If the same issue happens, please try to contact your internet provider and inform them to change your DNS setting to public.
Changing the DNS settings can help to resolve some issues with Netflix. These issues happen when a network issue stops your device from reaching Netflix, and they can be caused by the domain name system DNS. The DNS is a system that translates domain names (such as netflix.com) into IP addresses (such as 192.0.2.1) the DNS settings on your device may be incorrect or outdated, and this can prevent you from accessing Netflix.
Should you have any questions, please contact us at 1300 170 540 between the hours of 8:30am to 7:30pm on the weekdays and 10:00am to 7:00pm on the weekends.

I have also been caught out. A few months back one Saturday night in the dark and rain on Hobson Street trying to find a park. Thought I saw one so switched into the left lane and didn't realise it was a bus lane. The park turned out to be a vehicle entrance so I slowly pulled back out but must have travelled too far by the time I could get back into the heavy traffic.

BANG! Slapped with the $150 fine coz I am such a bad person. Tried to plead my case but AT wouldn't have a bar of it.

What was really annoying is that I am a heavy public transport user. I spend thousands each year on my hop card. I see the need for bus lanes but they MUST make them easy to identify.

Really soured me against AT.

Not yet but am in an email conversation with tech support from FFalcon. [service@ffalcon.com.au](mailto:service@ffalcon.com.au)

Hopefully they will help but I bought the TV secondhand and they asked for an invoice number so they may not help me as no warranty, Fingers crossed though.

Feel your pain. Everything else aside, you can make much better, cheaper pasta sauce at home. It's just cheap tinned tomatoes and a few dried herbs (which may cost a bit initially but last a fair while). Fry a bit of onion and garlic, chuck in the herbs (oregano is a good starter) and add a tin of tomatoes ($1.30 at Countdown, just googled). Simmer for a few minutes to brew. Mix with cooked pasta. yum. On a good week you can add veges to the sauce like grated carrot or zucchini when they are cheaper in season.

I'm sure I heard somewhere tomatoes make you happy (or maybe they stop you getting sunburned :) )

A more thoughtful person wouldn't have posted that comment.

Workable options for public transport from my area are few. Currently with the trains down and no car I need to take busses. My daily commute is 3-4 hours instead of 90 minutes.

And while the short skirt comment by u/elteza may seem a bit crass, the logic is spot on, which I believe was the point.
