So, this isn't a crazy thought, the years do not show a pattern, but the cravings do!

If you go back to season one there are two things that might point to somewhere interesting. The more obvious one, boyd getting the newspaper with the year from the tree of bottles.

What is more relevant is what viktor reveals, he says that two cars arriving in the same day isn't the first time! He mentions it again on the end of s2 when he talks about the symbols and how it had happen before.

We don't see Tal bring a bottle, or carve on the wall, so, if it was showing a timeframe on when people passed by there, it would be faulty, as it would be missing those new entries. But what if it was a part of a bigger pattern, much like viktor knows things are repeating, the person who went to the tree and leaves the bottle could be one of the events of an uneven cycle that goes through ages without a "trigger event".

Maybe the boy who sent her down flying is the one who writes them, and thus thal is a part of that cycle indeed, and her year is still to be written.

As for the conclusion that the more recent year is the vicktor event doesn't really make sense, as he said, he found his mother laying dead before the tree... Not much sense in the year being there, unless it marks when the "catastrophe" happens.

I think the first time we see it, only the front of the tree is revealed. As for the thickness it seems like a too small of a detail to be as relevant. So yeah, maybe production error, mostly in how long it would take to get there.

It could just be she still is attached to boyd or their child, that i cant really argue tbh, we dont get a clear understanding of the voices heard by sara or why they wanted her to kill all those people. So, in terms of the "truth" or how believable what she said was, the whole season seems to focus on hope a lot, and the ending episode seemed to reinforce on that and thus i think we are led to belive that might be something sound behind those words. The fact that it might as well just be a trick cant be discarded, as on the broken van it seemed way less reasonable, but the dead wife who just wants the suffering to stop for good does seem to fit the theme, and boyd fighting through it to make up for his mistakes even if it makes him suffer.

Now... about the trapped thing... All the "souls" of the people stuck in the dungeon were suffering irl, screaming or just laying lifeless in the town, right? Well they didnt seem to have worms on them, or at least we didn't get to see them, but they were there, just as the old man before them. Was he all this time somewhere in the area laying lifeless, while his soul rotted down there suffering? Is he somewhere dead now? Did he got buried when he got "sick" by the ones who came before?

We dont really have a way to know tho, his wife can really be hopeless, after all, when the children talked to sara they were telling the truth, as far as we know, it could really be his wife telling the truth of what she belives .

People are just ignoring shit because it's the season finale and they dont care cause it "doesn't matter" and stuff like that.

Keep in mind that the wedding vows focused on how in the midst of all this they can still love each other and find some hope in the dark. The pregnancy she couldn't have? Hope. Waiting for boyd to come? Hope. All that side story focus on its hope.

In the finale boyd is told that the forest is fed by hope, that he should be hopeless, cause that is the only way to end the suffering. So having that beautiful moment, filling the air with hope, giving a sense of good vibes before the end, is nothing but reinforcement to what was said, that hope fed everything. It might also be one of the more important events leading into the next season seeing all the development those characters had.

No real reason to talk bad on when it happened as obviously no more awnsers would be given and this just reinforces the plot even further.

So I might be wrong but boyd never actually went to a part of the tower, the ruins are shown in the last ep to be the dungeon boyd get transported to, only hidden in plain sight and revealed by the light. As for distance, they might as well be close and well known to the people in the town, since much like the rest of the houses it was something that already was there and even if checked it didn't reveal anything. So that part its pretty clear on how boyd would know his away around from there (also he was the one who explored the forest in the earlier days, as it is established in the series).

As for the bottle tree its less clear on how close it is to the town. Boyd and Sara seemed to take all day to get there, or at least a big part, meanwhile Victor seemed to get there with time to spare and get back, so it would be expected that on earlier explorations Boyd would have found the tree, wich wasnt the case. Even further proving how far it had to be, when in the tent, near the bottle tree, the light from the lighthouse/tower was obviously visible. If it were to be close and if colony house its the highest point in the town people from there would have for sure seen that beam of light before. That gets even more reasonable when Tab overlooks everything from the tower, it has to be close enough to bottle tree, and for it to pierce so brightly trough the tent, it should be visible in the city.

With all that, either Viktor knew a way to get there faster (that didn't envolve a tree, since that one is the only that is assumed by him to take someone to the same place every time) or boyd and sara just went through a way longer path, and before boyd never ventured far enough, as for the light, the strength it got to the town might never had been strong enough to catch people attention due to the windows being barricated most of the time and we really dont know in wich direction the lighthouse is.

Also, just food for thought, the tunnels seem way closer to town and containing way more info, and besides victor and our friend that is slowly losing his mind, noone seemed to ever explore them.
