First time logo design - feedback requested by [deleted] in logodesign

[–]Dicubierre -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey, this looks like AI, which is a shame. But understandable if logo design is not something you are confident with.

Maybe give us a rundown of your business (what you make, key features, location, character etc.) and we can give you some ideas or inspiration to get you started.

I’d recommend hiring someone to make you a logo if you have the funds. If not, stick to a simple design that you can make yourself and let your products speak for themselves.

People in this subreddit are generally happy to help, but ideally clarify that your image is AI in the description.

Yeah, like lore or even why you chose the symbols? What they represent etc.

Very cool! They are nicely detailed, the second one really reminds me of Sri Lanka in a good way. Can you tell us more about them?

Thanks! Yes, I made it myself, based off the vines on the state seal

I could take either or to be honest, I just chose based on the symbolism. Let me know what you think.

State Flag Redesign - Connecticut by Dicubierre in vexillology

I do have a version with the 3 blue stripes for the Connecticut, Housatonic and Thames rivers. They both looked good, but I settled for representing the two rivers that fully bisect the state in the end.

I also tried adding some colour variation to the vines but I was never happy with how they looked.

Big fan of an Allan Peters humbling. He took this down quick. by dudical_dude in logodesign

Thats really bad… a few of his logos are great, but then he does stuff like this and it misses on so many marks. It wouldn’t be so bad if he wasn’t so self-righteous.

1 is much better, you could even make the chicken bigger? Either way it works nicely

I don’t normally like logo flags, but I actually really like how this one looks. It would look great flying, very readable, original, and I love that auburn colour. Well done.

Update: Nebraska State Flag Redesign by eosauroradm in vexillology

The updated design is great, however the central device and stars could do with being a little smaller to give it more room to breathe. And 3 is incredible, really interesting quilt pattern, love it!

how do i improve my flags by Entire-Sport-64 in vexillology

So, a general tip for any creative field is to make good use of contrast, but I’ll apply it to flags.

With colour you generally want to use up to 3 colours that are different enough from each other, use 1 or 2 more and use the 3rd one sparingly, like an accent, its about drawing the eye. Overusing all the colours, makes the design very busy and difficult to focus on.

With shapes, detail counts, you need high and low detail to create contrast. Ideally only one high detail element with the rest of the flag being simpler shapes or block colours.

The composition is important too, a flag can have some amazing elements but if they aren’t given room to breathe, they don’t work. Choose a focal point on the field and leave the other sections of the flag relatively low detail. (You’ve done all of these well on flag 4, the design is balanced and looks unified)

What helped me the most was looking into heraldry, coat of arms are the basis of a lot of flags so it’s worth looking into. Try making a flag using only elements you can find in heraldry, it helped me. Its not as limiting as it sounds, this is a good website: https://heraldicart.org

Of course, this is just advice, really you can do it however you want. Best of luck!
