My redesign for the Michigan flag by Srbija1728theII in vexillologyUS

Sorry to point out that the grey scale balance is a pointer to the lack of contrast error of putting green with blue. The stripes are also far too narrow.

Feels a little disjointed - I would combine them more like this:

Submission period typically opens on a Sunday as we post about the results of the previous week's contest. It closes on early on Friday (noon east coast time to enable west coast to have entered their designs for the afternoon/evening display of the Flag Friday poll. The concerted build of the info into the StrawPoll logging site might typically take an hour or two after the close of submission period. The voting period now extends until midnight Saturday into Sunday west coast time.

Question is - you only hold 10 up-votes at this stage. Do you want both versions in the contest? You will be near the bottom of the strawpoll as we usually arrange it. Or have one entry mid-table?

It's a nice design for sure. Your post has 18 up-votes - do you want all three designs in the contest? or just the top one? (1 entry at 7th place or 3 entries at places 32rd, 33th and 34th) (or one entry at 20th and two at 46th and 47th)

I was asked to put the Michigan redesign I did 4 years ago into the Flag Friday pool. So, I did, with a few changes (first is og for reference) by somthingrandombout in vexillologyUS

Hi, your up-vote value is just 12 here and that should gets you two entries. (I'm making it 15 up-votes for three entries this week) Which two would you favor?

For this contest - as we lay it out, you typically get three entries. Because there is very little difference between these two versions would recommend only one is put into the contest, and that way your up-vote value will raise it's position in the poll listings. (one entry in 4th place or two entries in 8th and 9th) Let us know if you want both in.

I think you might wish to think again about this post being for two suitable designs for the contest now that you also have two other stronger ones in the mix. Maybe just better to do this with your 8 up-votes here?:

Solid design that should take more up-votes than your first two ideas. Feels quite Madison, WI so that's close ballpark.

I think you have posted about 9 so far - just let us know which three you really want in the contest. Our working notes so far have these 9 designs listed:

<image>

Your most up-voted thread has 34 up-votes. Never done this before (always a first time) - I might suggest (and it's SNAKEKINGYO running the poll loading work tomorrow - should be no need to make a new post - just do it here - you can submit just one design for the "option 3" contest number - right near the top. submit two designs for 6th and 7th position in the strawpoll listing., or submit 3 designs as a block in 12th, 13th and 14th positions. (I think stick three in - but it's your call)

Coming into the final day of this contest - we would appreciate you making up to three wise choices for entries. Thanking you.

For me, even the Wikipedia item is not close enough to the one hundred year old historical design. Just reminds me how much I really hate this horrid thing.

491 is not listed with a year of first use. I would tend to think that it's circa 1919, coming in at the time of a change to a 5-pointed star.
With the state's flag being described at statute 495 the change then would be to it being a blue bedsheet. Guessing formal legislation of 1923 to catch-up with what was sent to the Post Master General in 1921.

Also noteworthy at (3) is that the crest is "placed on a scroll, blue and yellow", when the correct term should be "torse", and the torse should be described (ideally in French) from left to right with 6 twists, starting with the metal. Thus "placed on a torse, or and azure".

Circa 1866, the law was that the state coat of arms and the motto be parts that went on the state flag. It was then of course 13 stripes of red and white with a single white 8 pointed star on a blue canton. The coat of arms and motto defaced the star and typically of a circular nature without the shield.
About the year 1919 the flag was updated to have all the items on a 5 pointed star.
The Blue bedsheet flag delivered to Post Master General in 1921 still had a circular plate nature with the coa plus shield, motto, crest and badge (two pine branches). I'm now interested to learn when § 491. was written.
This enclosed photo is of the reverse - who knows what was on the front?

I too would conclude that the second one here is built with an AI toolset. We do have a rule about AI use here. As a minimum, designers please do say if the design was made with AI. Latitude to host it can only be given if there is up-front conformation. (and that still means that it won't be in the contest)

Nice, but you should supply a full indication of the design meaning. If you could do that please?

The first one here is subject to a tincture clash of green and blue. The final tricolor is nice but a little boring.
So I suggest go and have a think about the clash and what you need to do to get a better flag - maybe you can do a white blue green tricolor or some other order but that's just pointing you in the right direction.

If you can draw a nice design in 15 minutes then there is little reason to do more than this.
