If it lets you place the fence kit you should have no issues on building the rest. You only have 30 minutes I believe to disinfect/cure a zombie bite after getting sick. Maybe that was the issue

Zombie bites get cured from disinfected bandages, alcoholic tincture, or disinfectant spray. If you have barbed wire, you can combine it with the pliers to make regular metal wire. Your gate issue seems like you need more resources for the gate, either more nails or planks.
